Description

Position:

Do you have a passion for science, engineering and working with people?

As a Learned Society Officer at the Institution of Chemical Engineers, you would be developing knowledge resources for IChemE members.

Excellent people skills are key, as you would be working closely with members in IChemE's Special Interest Groups, Communities of Practice, and working groups created to deliver specific outputs, and enable those groups to deliver first-rate, relevant knowledge outputs for members of the institution.

Requirements:

Develop and lead projects to create knowledge resources for members

  • Aligned with IChemE's overall strategy and priority topic areas, the learned society officer will propose, develop and support initiatives to create activities and knowledge resources for IChemE members. This will involve working closely with members to drive activities and create resources that deliver IChemE's vision engineering a sustainable world for members in sectors such as energy, water, food, health and wellbeing, and which draw on the underlying principles of sustainability, safety and digitalisation.

Enable member volunteers to create knowledge and deliver value

  • Working with IChemE's Special Interest Groups and other task groups, the post holder will enable members to develop content for IChemE members

Manage IChemE's medals and prizes programme

  • IChemE has a wellestablished programme of medals, which recognises excellence, achievement and volunteer effort across a broad range of academic and nonacademic categories. The post holder will manage the programme to ensure it supports the delivery of IChemE's vision and strategy, recognises emerging talent, and celebrates the achievements of chemical engineers to maximise the recognition and impact of the profession

In addition to duties and responsibilities listed above, the employee may be required to perform other duties assigned by their line manager from time to time.

IChemE is an international membership organisation and activities often take place outside of normal working hours. The job holder must be willing to attend and participate in such activities and associated travel.

Additionally, the job holder will be required to liaise with colleagues located in different time zones on an ad hoc basis to meet the needs of the business.

The role has no budgetary or line management responsibilities and no targets for income generation.

However, high quality Learned Society activity may provide the opportunity for IChemE to develop activity that will directly or indirectly lead to revenue generation.

It will also play a key role in supporting the Learned Society Committee and activity that delivers against the priority topics identified.
