    A sort after exciting opportunity to become a Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist (RCNS) in a well-established integrated multi professional Respiratory speciality, for chronic airways disease (COPD), asthma, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease and home oxygen prescribing service at Good Hope Hospital.

    This RCNS role is a vital link in supporting the patient to go home from hospital sooner, working in partnership with the local community teams, who support patients who would otherwise be in hospital.

    The post holder will be supported by more experienced RCNS nurses to enable them to achieve competence and knowledge which will support the provision of a seamless specialist service ensuring patients receive the highest standard of clinical care.

    The post holder's successful completion of the RCNS competences will enable him/her to become an autonomous clinical practitioner within the scope of practice for a Band 6 Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist.

    Registered Nurse on the NMC Register

    Where required for the role willingness to undertake training and education to support the role of specialist practice in COPD, Asthma, Oxygen prescriber and non-medical prescriber.

    Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.
    Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence.
    Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment.

    Can demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student learning.

    Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register
    Accurately record clinical data and understand its significance e.g. heart rate and rhythm, respiratory rate, pulse oximetry, peak flow rate, blood pressure.
    Health care management / leadership qualification
    Post registration respiratory nursing qualification

    Relevant Band 5 respiratory medicine experience
    Experience in COPD /Asthma care
    inhaler technique to patients, carers and other Health Care Professionals.
    Experience in administering oxygen adhering to local and national guidelines.
    Wiliness to complete recognised respiratory post graduate education level 6 or above.
    Professional Portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
    Can demonstrate understanding / experience / in practice-based supervision / assessment as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
    Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice
    Advanced knowledge of caring for patients with acute/long term chronic lung disease

    Experience in palliative care field
    Awareness and implementation of evidence-based guidelines.

    Substantial relevant and recent clinical experience within a health care setting or Acute NHS setting working as a deputy Band 6 position including the supervision and education of junior staff/ students.

    Demonstratable current, recent experience of team leadership and management within the healthcare setting.

    Interpret /along with the MDT blood gas / carbon dioxide level results for the purpose of prescribing home oxygen therapy.

    Knowledge of National Virtual Ward Service supporting early supported discharge
    Respiratory In-house training to interpret relevant investigations/test e.g. spirometry, blood gas, blood and specimen results
    ~ Excellent communication skills both written and verbal within a range of settings i.e. clinic's face to face and telephone, wards, teams' meetings, MDT.
    ~ Able to effectively present information to groups /health care professionals.
    ~ Counselling patients/carers with distressing conditions and symptoms Understanding of motivational skills and empathic communication

    Knowledge of benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation.
    Awareness and implementation of evidence-based guidelines.
    Willingness to complete physical assessment skills in respiratory patients (if applicable and desirable for the Band 6 role)
    Willingness to complete Prescribing qualification (if applicable and desirable for the Band 6 role).
    Ability to break bad news as necessary
    Proven ability to analyse data and identify data trends
