    About the Role

    The Hearing Support Team has an exciting and interesting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Teacher for Deaf children. We welcome applications from Qualified Teachers of the Deaf and teachers with SEND qualifications or experience of working with deaf children with a willingness to undertake the mandatory two year training.

    We are a team of qualified Teachers of Deaf Children, Educational Audiologist, Hearing Support Practitioners, BSL tutor/practitioner and Audiological technician. The post involves working with families, homes, schools and early years settings across Leicestershire to support positive outcomes for deaf children and young people aged 0-25. The post holder may be required to work within our secondary Hearing Support Centre facilitating the inclusion of the deaf students throughout the school as well as teaching within the centre. We work with both oral and signing deaf children.

    The successful applicant will have responsibility for caseload of deaf/hearing impaired children across the age range in and around Leicestershire. The role involves assessment and support of children as well as building deaf awareness, knowledge, skills and understanding through advice, support and training to families, schools, early years settings and colleges.

    A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

    About You

    Essential requirements:

  • Degree level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status, and the additional mandatory qualification in the education of Deaf children and/or further training in the field of Special Educational Needs and Disability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to relate positively to students, parents and other professionals and establish effective working relationships within a range of educational settings
  • Understanding and significant experience of the impact of deafness and of meeting the needs of deaf children This includes knowledge of effective teaching and learning approaches, understanding of language acquisition and training delivery to support the attainment and inclusion of SEND pupils , particularly those with a diagnosis of deafness.
  • Have knowledge and experience or a willingness to learn about the equipment and audiological management of deaf children including making ear mould impressions if required following initial British Academy of Audiology approved training.
  • Significant experience of working appropriately in accordance with relevant statutory and local policies and procedures for SEND and the ability carry out all duties in line with LCC Safeguarding policies and procedures and fulfil relevant safeguarding competencies.

  • Must be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010. This will include requirements to work flexibly around holiday periods in line with the service requirements and access to a vehicle with the ability to travel to temporary bases such as schools, touch-down bases etc
