    An exciting opportunity has arisen on the Oncology/Hematology Unit (Ward 3B) at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Hospital.


    We are looking to employ a motivated band 6 Sister/Charge Nurses, who are keen to join our Multidisciplinary team delivering high class care for children and young people affected by cancer and Hematology conditions.

    3B covers both Day Care and inpatient activity. This post will have a focus on the day care unit with support to the inpatient ward when required.


    Applicants should have experience and have the appropriate qualifications in caring for children and young people with cancer and other hematological conditions.

    Provide leadership support to the unit and act as ward manager in their absence.
    Achieve a high standard of nursing care. Demonstrate through practice the desired role model to guide all grades of nursing staff.
    Promote an environment suitable for the care of children.
    Promote evidence based nursing practice.

    Alder Hey Childrens NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care to over 275,000 children and young people each year.

    In addition to the hospital site located in the West Derby area of Liverpool, Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man.

    The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Alder Park building in the nearby borough of Sefton.

    We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites.

    Were also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

    Undertake a comprehensive assessment of care needs and develop, implementation and evaluate family centred programmes of care in the ward and or clinic environment

    Develop a clinical expertise in all aspects of care within area of work, be competent in the administration of intravenous and peripheral chemotherapy.

    Ensures that all planned care is evidence based/best practice
    Monitor and develop standards of nursing care within the Clinical Governance Framework
    Ensure that Trust policies and procedures are understood and adhered to, providing guidelines for junior staff whenever necessary
    Demonstrates professional accountability underpinned by the rules of the NMC, ensuring that these are applied consistently

    Continuously develop clinical role in order to ensure that effective care is delivered within the specialised areas of work, as determined by the profile of the ward.


    Ensure that Trust Management policies and procedures are understood and followed

    EDUCATION AND TRAINING
    Participate in pre and post registration training programmes and ensures a good learning environment within area of work
    Update personal knowledge by attending and participating in seminars and In Service Training sessions to maintain skills and satisfy personal development record
    Participate in staff development and performance review systems

    Encouraging and acting as a resource person for staff who are interested in undertaking research projects
    Advising and assisting with writing evidence based nursing standards, procedures and policies


    QUALITY ASSURANCE
    Assist in setting, maintaining and monitoring standards of care
    Facilitate and co-ordinate the introduction of Quality Assurance initiatives in line with Clinical Governance
    Maintain a healthy, safe and productive work environment assisting in risk assessments and developing action plans.


    HEALTH AND SAFETY
    ~ Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed upon them under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, to ensure that the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and employees.

    Oncology/Haematology experience essential as RSCN or equivalent at Band 5

    Limited experience in oncology/haematology

    IV and chemotherapy competent and willingness to undertake peripheral chemotherapy competencies

    Phlebotomy trained
