    Nu Quantum is on a mission to commercialise research generated over the last decade at the Cavendish Laboratory and to shape the future of quantum information systems. We're working on exciting technology that will improve the utility and accelerate the time-to-market of quantum computing systems. We integrate novel quantum photonic technology to form an efficient and scalable quantum networking infrastructure in partnership with world-leading companies and academic groups.

    The Role

    Nu Quantum is seeking an experienced digital design engineer to accelerate the development of our novel photonic quantum networking solution. You will be working with a world-class team of scientists and engineers to design and develop a scalable control system capable of multi-node orchestration. You will be joining a small multi-skilled control team and will be responsible for all aspects of the project lifecycle from specification, design, verification and lab bring-up of electronics.

    Responsibilities

    • Take ownership of projects from specification to delivery
    • Liaise with physicists, optics and electronics engineers to drive system specifications
    • Develop RTL designs taking ownership for design and verification tasks
    • Implementation on Xilinx FPGAs

    Requirements

    Your Skills, Qualifications and Experience

    • Degree-level qualification in electronics, computer science or related subject.
    • 6-10 years of experience in FPGA design using Verilog/SV/VHDL
    • Knowledge of the full design cycle from specification through to timing sign-off
    • Experience with industry standard digital simulators
    • Experience of building verification environments using SV or Cocotb
    • Experience using Xilinx Zynq-7000, MPSoC or RFSoC devices
    • Experience in bringing up software applications or Linux on Xilinx Zynq devices
    • Experience of building Petalinux or Yocto Linux kernels
    • Experience of writing Linux device drivers
    • Scripting of tool flows using Python and pytest

    Other (Desirable but not required)

    • Experience in writing embedded firmware in C/Rust
    • Experience in writing network applications using sockets/gRPC
    • Knowledge of networking protocols and packet processing
    • Knowledge of PTP, SyncE, White Rabbit
