This is a great opportunity for you to be part of an exciting service, at the forefront of implementation of the First Episode in Psychosis pathway.

This pathway makes a major difference to the quality of care received by those with First Episode Psychosis and greatly improves their ability to recover.

You can play a valuable part in ensuring our service users receive the right treatment at the right time from an EIP service and can go on to lead full, hopeful and productive lives.


We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 3 Support Treatment and Recovery Worker to join our Early Intervention in Psychosis Team.

EIP works with people aged 14 to 65 in the London Borough of Waltham Forest.


Your role as an STR will be part of the wider MDT and support the community treatment of people as part of the First Episode of Psychosis Pathway.

The work is varied and rewarding, and you will be part of a friendly, dynamic, highly skilled team.

You will need to be a good communicator, able to support people in distress or who are very unwell, be practical, sensible, and able to work alone, as well as part of a skilled team.


The successful applicant should:

Be able to evidence a good General Education to GCSE or equivalent.

Have relevant experience in mental health services where a degree of autonomous working has been required.


Be able to demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative, have good time management skills and be able to prioritise workload effectively.


Be able to demonstrate well developed interpersonal skills especially when handling conflict and change and should have the appropriate skills to facilitate the resolution of difficulties.


Be be able to work autonomously in the community and use their own initiative under the guidance of qualified staff.

Able to effectively communicate with patients, team and other agencies.

Ability to interact with clients in crisis or distress and empathy with vulnerable people.


Ability to work flexibly as services are provided within a variety of locations and venues, including within the service users home and wider community settings.


Responsible for providing support to the care co-ordinator, in the implementation of a recovery focused care plan for an allocated number of individual service users.

Carry a caseload of comprised of 1:1 work and group work under supervision of senior staff.

Support the implementation of EIP group work.

Motivated to develop relationships with community resources and share information with the team.

Work closely with service users families too which is an essential part of EIP's philosophy.

Provide Psychoeducation to service users and carers to support recovery and social inclusion.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London (B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest, CEME)

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436 p.a. pro rata for part time).


The main responsibilities of the post include:

Working with a client centre approach with to promote engagement in recovery focused goals.

Supporting service users to gain access to a variety of resources including employment, education, voluntary, leisure and health promotion.

Able to demonstrate and use own initiative, adapting interventions / activities to enable patient engagement.

Working independently as required and provide support with daily living to empower people to live independent lives.

Good working knowledge of local community resources and an ability to promote social inclusion to reduce isolation.


Supporting service users to identify early signs of mental health relapse and alert appropriate staff involved in the person's care.

Ability to create innovative solutions to help empower service users.

Ability to form positive therapeutic relationships with service users and carers.

Ability to acknowledge diversity and promote anti discriminatory practice/equal opportunities.
