To be responsible in an assisting role for the provision of a high quality, nutritional catering service for patients, visitors, volunteers and staff within budgetary constraints.

To help prepare and serve appetising meals to patients visitors, staff and volunteers.


Embrace the 'making every day count' ethos of the charity by adhering to ad hoc catering requests of patients and their families where possible.


  • To work in a team, motivate and support the cook in the preparation and service of meals and the running of the catering services.
  • To work across the Havens Hospice sites as required. Whilst this mainly will be planned in advance this may include ad hoc short notice changes i.e. through staff sickness, absence or a service led need.
  • To assist the cook in their role which entails the provision of a high quality, nutritional catering service for patients, visitors, volunteers and staff within budgetary constraints.
  • To prepare sandwiches and snacks, light lunches and suppers for patients' visitors, staff and volunteers.
  • Preparing vegetables, salads and sandwich fillings for the daily menu and prepacked/out of hour service.
  • To help maintain a clean working environment which includes washing up and completing daily cleaning tasks.
  • To accept deliveries and replenish stock.
  • Embrace the 'making everyday count' ethos of the charity by adhering to ad hoc catering requests of patients and their families where possible and within the catering assistant role.
  • Check and replenishing goods in date, recording of fridge/freezer temperatures.
  • To work effectively and responsibly following given instructions.
  • Control wastage and records / reports all wastage
  • Dishes are to specification with no over portioning
  • Ensure all stock is secure.
  • Be responsible of the cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchen and all associated areas to the required standards by adhering to cleaning rosters.
  • Ensure all meals are prepared according to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) and food health and hygiene systems recording all evidence as required in line with the Environmental Health and Healthcare Commission.

Our specialist Care Teams can support them and their family living throughout illness, death and bereavement in the comfort of their own home and through our hospice services, Fair Havens and Little Havens.

  • Participate in annual clinical supervision and appraisal.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety and other organisational policies and procedures.
  • To act in a manner that safeguards the interests of beneficiaries and upholds public trust and confidence in the hospice.
  • Comply with Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR requirements in all working practices maintaining confidentiality, integrity, availability, accuracy, currency, and security of information as appropriate. Take personal responsibility for all personal data within own working environment.
