Role Purpose Statement for TRAINEE Transport Traffic Planner / Clerk


To implement transport plans acting as the primary point of interaction between the Traffic Office and the Drivers, Shunters, Loaders and Warehouse.


Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities - All will be trained

  • Pre & Debriefing drivers to a high standard ensure all correct paperwork & information is captured. Ensuring accuracy at all time.
  • Following up any issues that arise
  • Data capture on various internal documents
  • Plan and control local shunters re: trailer movements / shunts / trailer board and highlight any issues to Transport Manager / Warehouse team.
  • Booking in collections/deliveries.
  • Maximise loading efficiency through liaison with the warehouse & planning department.
  • Prioritise loading schedule for loaders and ensure plan is adhered to.
  • Support vehicle maintenance and servicing administration as required.
  • Cover all traffic administration tasks as required.
  • Report any food safety/quality or food defence issues.
  • Any other reasonable duties as and when required.
  • Planning a variety of consignments in the most efficient way.
  • Building loads on the Transport Management System.
  • Deploying runs to a Transport Plan.
  • Arrange back loads and collections.
  • Sub contract work as required and manage contractor relationships.
  • Offer the highest level of customer service, both internal and external.
  • Managing and liaising with drivers to meet the customers expectations.

Performance Indicators

  • Accuracy of vehicle load checking
  • Accuracy of the trailer board on a daily basis
  • Accuracy of Pre & Debrief on a daily basis
  • Ensuring the efficient operation of local shunt movements and warehouse loading

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of WTD and Tachograph legislation.
  • PC skills.
  • Food safety knowledge desirable
  • Geographical knowledge of UK
  • B Licence is a must
