    This is an exciting opportunity to join the South London Partnership Forensic CAMHS team. We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed consultant psychologist or psychotherapist ready to take a lead role in further developing the SLP FCAMHS service. The successful candidate will lead a responsive community service for young people where there are concerns about risk of harm to others. The post holder will provide specialist consultation, supervision, assessment and intervention.

    This new post will provide clinical and strategic leadership to the team. Alongside other team members, the post holder will contribute to the provision of a highly specialist advice, consultation, assessment and intervention service for young people presenting with risk to others and complex needs.

    Main duties of the job

  • To work closely with all partner agencies in the development and delivery of SLP FCAMHS across South London
  • To provide clinical and overall leadership for the SLP FCAMHS team
  • To facilitate multi-agency consultations to professional networks working with young people presenting with high risk of harm to others and a range of complex/unmet needs
  • To provide risk assessment, formulation and brief intervention as required and to supervise others in doing the same.
  • To provide regular supervision, complex case formulation and reflective practice for SLP FCAMHS practitioners and staff from other agencies as required
  • To ensure the delivery of an accessible service to a group of young people who are underrepresented in current CAMHS services.

    About our locations:

    The service is part of the South London Partnership (SLP), and the post holder will be required to travel across the 12 boroughs covered (Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Greenwich, Kingston, Lambeth, Lewisham, Merton, Richmond, Southwark, Sutton and Wandsworth) as required. The service base is located at The Michael Rutter Centre, Denmark Hill, less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2).

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To lead, manage and plan the delivery of a highly specialist psychological therapy service to the SLP FCAMHS team, and personally provide expert clinical input.
  • To be responsible to the Professional Head of Psychology and Psychotherapy, CAMHS CAG for the monitoring and implementation of professional standards in the practice of applied psychology and psychotherapy in SLP FCAMHS and for the systematic and effective provision of professional supervision.
  • To provide highly specialist multiagency consultation, psychological assessments, formulations and interventions for clients in SLP FCAMHS presenting with a wide range of mental health issues, neurodiversity (e.g. ADHD, autism, learning disability), offending behaviours, at levels expected of a psychologist/psychotherapist who has achieved the equivalent of a PG Diploma-worth of post-qualification specialist development.
  • To assess and monitor risk, using structured risk assessment tools where necessary, and draw up appropriate risk management plans
  • To ensure that all services provided are acceptable and accessible to the diverse communities which make up the South London Partnership
  • To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
  • To ensure the conduct of research, service evaluation and audits relevant to SLP FCAMHS, in conjunction with NHS England, and the CAMHS research agenda
  • To be responsible for the good clinical governance, quality and appropriateness of the work of psychologists and psychotherapists in SLP FCAMHS
  • To work as an autonomous professional within registration body guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by principles and policies or procedures, and interpret these and be responsible for their implementation within the service areas of responsibility.
  • To advise other members of the service and our multi-agency partners on specialist psychological care of clients, specifically as pertains to risk of harm to others.
  • To take a lead on staff support within their area, working closely with Corporate Psychology and Psychotherapy to support colleagues and ensure all staff in SLaM have access to evidence-based support. To participate, as a recipient, in staff support work when appropriate.
  • To take a lead in the development of SLP FCAMHS, working in conjunction with our partners across the SLP, Local Authorities and the voluntary sector.
  • To offer specialist supervision, and training to professionals/agencies when required.

    Qualifications

    Essential criteria

  • Entry-level qualification in Applied Psychology (professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level additional training) that has been accepted by the HCPC for purposes of professional registration. (A/I)
  • Additional training beyond entry-level qualification in a specialised area of psychological practice (e.g. cognitive behavioural therapy) through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses and/or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice–based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by a BPS National Assessor and an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma or higher.   • Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist under supervision in child and adolescent forensic mental health. (A/I)
  • Experience of undertaking leadership roles (A/I)
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in child and adolescent services with a particular focus on forensic/complex presentations. (A/I)
  • Experience of proposing and implementing service development projects that impact beyond own service area. (A/I)
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience using systemic approaches (A/I)
  • Experience of working with people who have complex contextual safeguarding needs and who may have come into contact with youth justice services (A/I)
  • Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of management and leadership. (A/I/R)
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for young people with complex needs ((e.g. neurodiversity, social complexity, offending behaviour, contextual safeguarding concerns). (A/I/R)
  • Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care. (A/I/R)
  • Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding of consultation and clinical supervision of psychologists and non-psychologists related to offending, mental health and safeguarding (A/I)

  • To select and administer specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessments, interpreting and integrating complex data that require analysis, interpretation and comparison, drawn from several sources, on which expert opinion may differ
  • To communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues overcoming barriers to communication including sensory, and emotional difficulties, cultural differences and hostility to or rejection of information.
