    Description
    To work as an autonomous specialist Physiotherapist developing and delivering specialised programmes of care for patients with complex needs.


    To undertake a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist role within the Pain department at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust working alongside Berkshire Healthcare Foundation trust and a multidisciplinary team.

    To facilitate personalised care within an integrated care pathway between the Royal Berkshire Hospital and Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust


    Interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical data to form accurate diagnoses and prognoses informing complex decision making ensuring the delivery of high quality patient focused care.


    To support the lead of Physiotherapist and Advanced Practitioners in seeking opportunities to identify and engage in developments in professional practice and the transformation of service delivery.

    To provide advanced training, advice and clinical education to service providers, service users and service commissioners.

    To provide an advanced standard of assessment, treatment and management for patients from all referral sources, in order to maximise patients rehabilitation outcomes.


    To support the multidisciplinary team on specialised Physiotherapy care and treatment for patients, based on best available clinical practice and evidence.

    To practice independently at a specialist level, whilst effectively assessing risk.
    The Royal Berkshire Hospital achieved Foundation Trust status on 1st June 2006. It was the first Foundation Trust in the South Central Strategic Health Authority.

    The Trust has a successful track record of delivering high quality acute medical and surgical services for 500,000 patients across West Berkshire, an area extending from Newbury in the west to Henley-on-Thames in the east, and including Wokingham and parts of Hampshire to the south and parts of Oxfordshire to the north.

    The hospital provides all those services normally associated with a very large District General Hospital.

    The hospital provides services on a single site for all the major specialities including Accident and Emergency, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Genitourinary Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Maxillo-Facial surgery, paediatrics (including a NICU), general medicine (including all major medical specialities including CCU, Renal Unit, ITU and gastroenterology), radiotherapy and oncology, and all the general surgical specialities.

    Diploma or degree in Physiotherapy
    Evidence of continual professional development

    Experience in assessing and treating children or adults with physical conditions and complex multi pathologies
    Experience of rehabilitation and treatment of Pain patients

    Previous experience in a consultant clinic setting
    Previous experience within the community setting

    Ability to apply core Physiotherapy skills across a range of clinical conditions within a client centred, goal setting approach
    Skills in the assessment and treatment of adults/children with complex physical disabilities
