    Description

    To be responsible to the Housemistress for the general welfare and personal development of all pupils in the House in accordance with the policy of the school.

    To liaise with the House team in ensuring for each pupil the provision of a comfortable living environment and to ensure that all their requirements are met.

    To work with the House team to ensure that appropriate care is given to all pupils, and that the special needs of each age group, dependent on where you are based, is met.

    To be aware of, and respond to, the special needs of individual boarders, including those with disabilities or from different cultural backgrounds, and to be aware of the changing needs of all pupils as they develop.

    If required in the house, to be responsible to the Housemistress for the day-to-day House cleaning routine and to liaise with the cleaning staff at least once a day to ensure that there is regular and effective communication.

    To liaise with the Housemistress concerning general health of the pupils, and to keep a closely in touch with her and with the Medical Centre staff in case of individual illness if required.

    To welcome day pupils into the House and to integrate them as far as possible in all aspects of the life of the school.

    To support the Housemistress in ensuring that the House is not left unattended and that pupils are always adequately supervised at all times.

    Be fully conversant with and apply the school's child protection/Safeguarding, Anti-Bullying, Behaviour and Complaints policies.
    To share information promptly and accurately using the school's systems, such as iSams, Evolve and CPOMS.
    To assist the Housemistress, in ensuring that the presence of pupils is registered at key points during the day and evening
    To report anyone missing immediately to the Housemistress, and in their absence, SLT.
    To work with the relevant House staff to ensure the smooth transition of pupils in to that House.

    To be prepared to work at any reasonable time to help with the care of pupils in times of emergency.

    Report any maintenance issues to the Facilities Department promptly to ensure a safe and high quality environment for all, reporting any incidents or near misses via Evolve accurately and promptly.

    The post-holder will be expected to do overnight duties twice during the week (Monday to Thursday) and every other weekend during term time (Friday 5pm to Monday 8am) and a duty room will be provided for this.

    Teaching PSHE.
    Support the aims and ethos of the school.
    Treat all members of the school community with respect and consideration.
    Treat all pupils fairly, consistently and without prejudice.
    To attend appropriate or relevant training to ensure that skills and knowledge are kept up to date.
    To act in accordance with the aims, policies and administrative procedures of the school.
    Display a willing attitude to promote the good reputation of the school.
    GCSEs in Maths and English to grade C or above or equivalent.
    NVQ in Caring for Children and Young People or the equivalent is desirable but not essential.

    This role is geared towards a non-teaching post-holder, but teachers are welcome to apply and will be considered depending upon the needs of the School.

    Excellent awareness of 'Keeping Children Safe' and Safeguarding policy/ processes.


    Personal Qualities:
    Effective communication skills in both written and spoken English.
    Basic IT knowledge to include Word, Excel and database packages or at least a willingness to undertake training.
    Lead pupils and staff calmly when under pressure.
    Understand and implement key policies and procedures.
    Relate to a wide variety of pupils and develop excellent relationships with parents.
    Aware of different cultures and how diversity in a Boarding House may be promoted.
    Hold a UK driving licence, ideally with 'D1 entitlement' and experience of driving a minibus.
    A strong working understanding of safeguarding as applied to a boarding environment.
    Kind, patient, supportive and willing to go the extra mile to support all of our pupils.
    Strong planning and organisational skills.

    Clear vision of the role of Assistant Housemistress in supporting pupils, both within Boarding House and the wider school environment.

    Flexible and adaptable in terms of duties and hours.

    Sense of fun and sense of humour, as well as a willingness to share ideas and inspire young people.

    Involved in the wider aspects of school life.
