The project
The project 'Quality of Legislation as a Strategic Component in Legislative Decision-making' analyses the causes of legislative quality focusing on the whole body of European Union legislation.
We aim to develop new methods for measuring legislative quality using natural language processing techniques. Also, the project proposes a game-theoretical model to explain the causes of legislative quality.Our study has important implications as it will provide novel insights on how the quality of legislation can be improved.
This project is led by Moritz Osnabrügge (Associate Professor at Durham University), Matia Vannoni (Associate Professor at King's College London) and Xiao Lu (Assistant Professor at Peking University).
The project is funded by a British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grant.The successful candidates will play a key role in the project by helping to assess the performance of the newly developed methods.
More specifically, the successful candidates will identify syntactic and lexical elements of legal sentences that are indicative of legislative quality.
The below role descriptor seeks to capture the main requirements of the role consistently, providing a summary of the key duties of the flexible role to help in setting expectations for applicants, flexible workers and line managers.
Systematically and accurately collect and manage data to help achieve the research objectives.Work collaboratively as part of an international team, liaising with research colleagues and build effective working relationship to develop knowledge.
Substantive interest in language, legislation, or law.The role is compatible with remote working. The deadline for applications is Sunday, 26 May 2024.
