WREF is the global team that is responsible for the full lifecycle of planning, execution and operations of GSK's commercial real estate portfolio.

This includes defining the organisation's real estate and workplace experience strategy across our network of over 250 manufacturing, R&D and office facilities; as well as leveraging our network of vendor partners to ensure delivery facility management and capital project services to GSK's global office portfolio.

The team is set up in a matrixed operating model where a Centre of Excellence (CoE) is responsible for service strategy and process ownership, and Regional teams are responsible for executing WREF's services.


The Safety, Risk & Compliance Lead is responsible for providing clear safety compliance support and oversight to WREF Operations in alignment with the overall company EHS strategy and Internal Control Framework.

It will provide focused direction to facility operations, partnering with EHS, service provider professionals and with Corporate Functions to drive good safety compliance practice within WREF, driving safety improvements, minimising loss, enabling the management of operational risk and embedding a culture that prioritises safety and compliance.


Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver a safety compliance advisory service in the areas of safety and compliance that enables WREF to meet its statutory and corporate requirements and fits the needs of the business across areas such as
  • EHS and Engineering Standards, ABAC, Info Protection, Thirdparty oversight, Privacy Support, etc.
  • Manage a safety and compliance Community of Practice (COP) network including WREF regional teams and service provider professionals to ensure best practice sharing, learnings from potential and actual incidents are understood, problem solving/ peer review of RCAs, review of SOP changes and leverage COP forum to ensure any new training modules are shared and understood.
  • Support the embedding of safety diligence and controls through new site selection and leasing processes
  • Support the deployment of new/updated SOPs, Policies and Procedures to ensure WREF compliance.
  • Lead Inspection Readiness for all audits and management monitoring (EHS IBM, Audit & Assurance, and Regulatory); Field requests during audits to the appropriate SME, Maintain WREF Audit Tracker and store audit reports in central repository; Ensure Finding Owners are identified, CAPAs are delivered to plan; Oversee Audit Logistics (From preaudit to postaudit); Trend and report on Finding themes and repeat Findings Track and Ensure timely completion of CAPAs
  • Provide safety compliance support and direction to WREF regional teams ensuring alignment with GSK companywide EHS and Engineering Policies/Standards.
  • Ensure appropriate nearmiss and incident reporting and investigation of EHS events to the EHS Councils and into EHS company reporting systems eg EHS One and escalations to the EHS Commercial and Global functions team
  • Track, trend and report metrics (safety, risks, change controls, sustainability, etc.) to mitigate risk and identify improvement opportunities
  • Monitor, measure and report progress and hold to account service providers in meeting agreed safety and compliance measures
  • Embed a culture of safety and compliance across WREF operations; implement and promote WREF's internal control framework (ICF) in line with GSK code
  • Drive effective management of principle risks; lead and facilitate WREF Risk Management and Compliance Board (RMCB) and Confirmation Champion management monitoring and Gemba programs and ensure finding actions are being managed by local/regional teams
  • Contribute to real estate due diligence activities as required
  • Embed safety programs (i.e., permit to work, safe systems of work, working at heights, etc.) within WREF to be delivered by sites and Service Partners were appropriate
