Head of Finance/Senior Finance Manager

Location:
Brighton, East Sussex**
Salary: Up to £35,000 (pro rata)

9.30am to 6.00pm, 30 hours - 4 days per week

Job Type:

They support artists who use digital technology in their work, and helps people find routes into the creative and cultural industries.

They deliver education and talent development programmes, commissionartists to make and present new work, and present exhibitions, talks and artist residencies.


The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a
Senior finance professional to join their enthusiastic team.

You will be responsible for the financial management, associated policies and contribute to the financial and business planning of the organisation.


Purpose & Responsibilities:


  • Planning, setting, managing and monitoring of their budget and cashflow.
  • Managing all aspects of their company's finances, including running and enhancing their financial systems and processes, and ensuring their financial security and efficiency.
  • Ensuring compliance with their legal and business obligations as a Charity:
  • Ensure up-to-date and clear budgets, financial reports and cash flow forecasts are produced.
  • Help to devise and deliver initiatives to increase income and reduce expenditure within their commercial operations.
  • Lead and monitor financial risk management across the organisation, and keep the Risk Register up to date.
  • Oversee bookkeeping and accounting activities, and ensure all statutory accounts are prepared as required for the annual audit.
  • Liaise with auditors and provide all information required for the completion of the statutory audit.
  • Identify and lead on any suitable investment opportunities and arrangements, and manage relationships with external financial advisors, including tax specialists etc
  • Be responsible for ensuring legal compliance with all statutory obligations within charity and corporate law (e.g. HMRC, Charities Commission, Companies House), and adhering to financial, tax, administrative and operational best practice.
  • Ensure annual returns are filed within the required deadlines to Companies House and the Charities Commission.
  • Ensure that all financial reporting requirements are met for public and private sector funders.
  • Set and regularly review all internal financial policies, ensuring all legal and best practice requirements are met. Specific policies include but are not limited to the Financial Procedures, Ethical Fundraising, Conflict of Interest and Data Protectionpolicies.
  • Oversee all the contracts and negotiations with external agencies, such as property management, insurance, etc.
  • Prepare and administer all employment contracts.

Requirements:


Essential:


  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Head of Finance or equivalent.
  • Excellent knowledge of charity regulations and company law.
  • Experience of developing and delivering financial strategies.
  • Understanding of the current finance issues relating to working in the finance department of a charity or a small business.
  • Experience of devising and implementing new finance systems.
  • Excellent ICT skills including experience of using software such as Excel, Microsoft Word, Googledocs and Quickbooks.

Desirable:


  • Previous working experience in a similar role for an art charity
  • An accounting qualification or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with VAT as it applies to Charities.
  • Familiarity with the Charity Statement of Recommended Practice "SORP" FRS 102.
