  • Provide a Phlebotomy service to our population within the Integrated Care System
  • Work under indirect supervision in accordance with defined work rotas and protocols
  • Be competent in the assessment of patients both physically and emotionally, to ensure safety prior to blood samples being taken.
  • Be competent in the selection of the appropriate sample bottle for all common laboratory investigations.
  • Be competent in the procedures required for bleeding high risk, immunocompromised and patients nursed in Isolation for cross infection purposes.
  • Be competent in the use of computer software packages associated with the ordering of blood samples from different sources.
  • Ensure samples are correctly labelled for transportation to the laboratory through the appropriate electronic system.
  • Maintain patient safety through the timely and accurate reporting of any incidents or issues.
  • Be the lead phlebotomist for the service including the training and assessment of other staff in phlebotomy practice.
  • To pass onto/seek assistance from other colleagues, promptly, any questions that you are unable to resolve.
  • To liaise and refer patients to the MDT team as appropriate in accordance with local procedures.
  • Escalate concerns regarding patient/ staff to the Line Manager.
