Provide a Phlebotomy service to our population within the Integrated Care System
Work under indirect supervision in accordance with defined work rotas and protocols
Be competent in the assessment of patients both physically and emotionally, to ensure safety prior to blood samples being taken.
Be competent in the selection of the appropriate sample bottle for all common laboratory investigations.
Be competent in the procedures required for bleeding high risk, immunocompromised and patients nursed in Isolation for cross infection purposes.
Be competent in the use of computer software packages associated with the ordering of blood samples from different sources.
Ensure samples are correctly labelled for transportation to the laboratory through the appropriate electronic system.
Maintain patient safety through the timely and accurate reporting of any incidents or issues.
Be the lead phlebotomist for the service including the training and assessment of other staff in phlebotomy practice.
To pass onto/seek assistance from other colleagues, promptly, any questions that you are unable to resolve.
To liaise and refer patients to the MDT team as appropriate in accordance with local procedures.
Escalate concerns regarding patient/ staff to the Line Manager.
