    Description

    Purpose of Role

    Working as part of a small team, you will have a strong technical background, with experience of supporting complex software systems. However, we do not necessarily expect you to have experience of Oracle Fusion. Training will be given as required, and you will be able to access help and advice from our third-party support partner. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop sought-after Oracle Fusion skills.

    Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities

    The following list gives an indication of the duties and responsibilities of the role. There are multiple technical specialists in the team, and we expect each to specialise in a subset of these activities.

    Second-line support

  • Act as the second point of contact for technical support issues related to Oracle Fusion.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot reported issues, providing timely and effective resolutions.
  • Escalate complex issues to third-party support partner as needed.
  • Document support processes and solutions for future reference.
  • Technical development

  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand specific development needs and requirements.
  • Design and implement small-scale extensions to Oracle Fusion applications, working with colleagues and the University's support partner where required.
  • Take new developments through the deployment cycle, to ensure there is fully evidenced deployment process, User Acceptance Testing and Roll-back option as required.
  • Work with the change manager on large scale change and development; working with project teams to document, develop and deploy approved changes.
  • Bring developments to the Business Systems Change Approval Board (CAB) with full documentation for approval to deploy to production environments.
  • Develop and maintain reports and data extracts based on agreed requirements.
  • Monitor, extend and maintain systems integrations using OIC (Oracle Integration Cloud).
  • Write and optimize SQL queries etc for Oracle Fusion applications. System maintenance

  • Monitor and maintain existing configuration, integrations, reports and other developments, working with colleagues and the University's support partner where required. Perform periodic reviews of the University's configuration to ensure best performance and compatibility with Oracle Fusion updates and patches.
  • Propose and implement improvements to existing usage of the system, working with colleagues and the University's support partner where required.
  • Collaboration with third-party development teams

  • Provide input on the design and architecture of new solutions to ensure maintainability and scalability.
  • Work closely with third-party development teams to ensure a smooth transition of developed solutions into production.
  • Documentation and knowledge base

  • In collaboration with colleagues, maintain an organized knowledge base of common technical issues and their resolutions.
  • Document procedures, scripts, and configurations for future reference, which may involve documenting items developed by others.
  • Work with the team to ensure all new developments are understood, documented and fully handed over to the support function. Where appropriate be fully involved in the training and roll-out of new, existing or changed functionality.
  • Environment management

  • Manage the University's development, testing, and production environments for Oracle Fusion applications.
  • Plan and execute controlled deployments of new features, patches, and updates.
  • Monitor the health and performance of Oracle Fusion environments, implementing proactive measures.
  • Ensure that backup policies are correctly defined and implemented.
  • Ensure compliance with security best practices for Oracle Fusion environments.
  • Develop regression testing and scripts and manage the testing and deployment of regular updates of the Oracle Fusion deployment.
  • Ensure environments are available for quarterly system updates, with a full roll-out plan.

    Education, Qualifications & Experience

    These are the criteria on which the short-listing and recruitment selection will be made

    Essential

  • A first degree in Computer Science (or related discipline) or equivalent practical experience in the workplace.
  • Experience of supporting, monitoring, troubleshooting customising and configuring complex off-the-shelf SaaS cloud based systems such as Oracle Fusion, Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce or SAP, with experience of the full development lifecycle, from requirements gathering through testing to deployment.
  • Demonstrable experience in at least one of the following areas of systems configuration and maintenance: System integrations, dealing with the automatic or scheduled transfer of data between systems, using systems such as Oracle Integrations Cloud, MS Azure integrations or similar systems, with excellent SQL / development skills. Environment management, dealing with development, SIT, UAT and production environment updates, clones and maintenance Transactional reporting, developing complex high level reports and dashboards, using tools such as OTBI, SAP Business Objects, MS Business Objects Understanding and maintaining system security, allocating security privileges for users utilising best practice and understating separation of responsibilities. Configuring automated role based security allocation. System test management, covering standard regression testing for regular updates, testing of new functionality and working with project teams to ensure new developments are fully tested prior to roll out.
  • Demonstrable professional approach, with good planning, organisational, analytical and problem-solving capability, including the ability to function effectively in a pressured environment both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills, able to understand and communicate complex issues effectively.

    The Global Information Services directorate provides a range of services to support, promote and supply information, information skills and infrastructure to support a modern research-intensive university in a global setting. This straddles academic library provision alongside a range of technical services and systems such as IT and AV services, systems and support for learning & teaching, research & enterprise, and operational effectiveness. It is an integrated global service, providing services to students, staff, applicants, alumni, and external users across all five campuses.

    The Applications and Data team is part of Global Information Services, and is responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting a wide range of software services that support the University's activities. The three main groupings are:

  • Business systems (supporting HR, Finance, Estates etc).
  • Student systems (supporting the student journey from the applicant stage through to graduation).
  • Web systems (supporting the University website, SharePoint and other web services).
  • In line with our cloud-first strategy, most of our systems are off-the-shelf SaaS offerings from major suppliers. Much of our work is focused on understanding business requirements, configuring our systems to meet those requirements, managing suppliers and creating bespoke integrations between the different solutions to create a coherent set of services.
