The salary for this role is up to £27,000 depending on experience
The role will involve:
⦁ Nursing care of hospitalised / in-patients and day patients
⦁ Schedule 3 experience/opportunity for development
⦁ Monitoring of anaesthetics
⦁ Consulting with clients, at nurse clinics (including weight management, senior advice, dietary advice and puppy/kitten advice for example)
⦁ Carrying out procedures such as nail clipping, anal gland expression and dental checks
⦁ Administering medications and vaccinations under the prescription of a veterinary surgeon
⦁ Assistance and support to veterinary surgeons during surgeries and procedures
⦁ Assistance and support to vets within the consulting rooms, as requested
⦁ Use of equipment associated with anaesthetics and monitoring of patients
⦁ Cleaning and maintenance of lab, kennels, prep and theatre areas
⦁ Infection control in lab, kennels, prep and theatre areas
⦁ Maintaining stock in lab, kennels, prep and theatre areas
⦁ Laundry
⦁ Cleaning and maintenance of all equipment
⦁ Participation in team meetings – that occur every month and "Full Practice Days" held every quarter
⦁ Assistance to vets on house visits where required
⦁ Participation in puppy socials
⦁ Overseeing, our ANAs and nursing students in the Practice
⦁ Assistance in the training of ANAs and nursing students, where appropriate
⦁ Dispensing pharmaceuticals
⦁ Use of laboratory, including Idexx machines and microscopy
⦁ Assist with practice marketing initiatives
⦁ Adhere to health and safety policy and procedures, identify hazards and undertake appropriate risk assessments as needed
⦁ Promote the practice, its services and its products to clients and the public
⦁ Maintain knowledge of the employee handbook and relevant protocols including confidentiality
⦁ Management of waste control including drug disposal, cremation service
⦁ Problem–solving about day-to-day issues where requested by the Head Nurse e.g. equipment repairs, and practice protocols about budgeting and spending
Rota patterns that work for you
We care about the work/life balance of our people and do our best to ensure your needs are met. The standard shift pattern is 37.5 hours across 5 days, plus Saturdays on a shared rota covered by the whole Nursing Team equally. We make alternative provision for our clients to offer Out of Hours Services but we do continue to offer Patient Care on a case-by-case basis. We encourage a Flexible Working Policy and will consider candidate requirements to include the possibility of job share depending on business needs.
What our practice has to offer
Our Fishguard branch has internal laboratory, dentistry and surgical facilities and has the unique opportunity to offer clients our aquatic treadmill for hydrotherapy, and where our rehab/physio nurses are based. We also offer laser and acupuncture services in both.
Join our enthusiastic and experienced team
We are a blended team of experienced and talented team members with of 9 veterinary surgeons, currently 5 registered veterinary nurses, a student nurse and 3 animal nursing assistants. The team also includes a Practice Manager, Reception co-ordinator and our reception team covering the three sites.We have an advanced practitioner in Small Animal Surgery who performs our advanced surgeries once weekly allowing the Vet Team to deal with orthopaedic work and complex soft tissue surgery in house.
One of our Vets is currently undertaking an Exotics Certificate, we are supporting a further Vet to potentially develop their surgical skills, and several our Vet Team being able to perform acupuncture and alternative rehabilitation support.
We enjoy regular social events including our annual Team Building Day in the summer and Christmas get together and there are also other optional get-togethers all year round. Last year three of our Clinical team took time out from their roles and headed to Sri Lanka to participate in a voluntary neutering scheme
