We are looking for a Pricing Technology Apprentice, based in London.


The Opportunity

Starting in September 2023, our Pricing Technology Apprentice programme will give you the opportunity to develop a range of skills while working within our Global Pricing Technology team.

In addition to on-the-job development, over the course of 24 months, you'll spend 20% of your time participating on a Level 7 Digital and Technology Solutions Specialist apprenticeship programme.

This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to embark on a career as a Developer and will provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviors for success.


Your Team

You will join our programme as part of our Global Pricing team which is responsible for maintaining and further developing the actuarial pricing tool system landscape.

This international team, located across London, Munich, Bucharest and North America has grown to 80 people globally and will provide lots of opportunities for diverse experience and exposure.


The Impact You Will Have
AGCS is implementing a major expansion of its technical pricing capabilities. As part of this, a major project has been initiated to modernise the pricing technology.

Reporting to the Head of Pricing Technology, you will support team members to drive forward the development efforts of the Pricing Technology team.

This will involve collaborating with the line of business pricing teams and the underwriter units to deliver new pricing tools and enhancements to our existing pricing tools.

It is a fantastic opportunity to shape the pricing direction at AGCS while also influencing the future design of pricing technology.


Some of your specific responsibilities could include

  • Implement, maintain and enhance our pricing tools on pricing technology platforms
  • Adhere to the AGCS pricing technology build and testing standards
  • Work together with AGCS pricing and underwriting teams to understand and ensure accurate delivery of their requirements
  • Collaborate effectively with IT on the integration of our pricing tools with the AGCS IT landscape
  • Maintain our pricing tool design principles and contribute to their development
  • Deliver pricing technology updates with a focus on quality, ensuring development is peer reviewed and tested comprehensively
  • Contribute to the design of pricing technology software enhancements
  • Establish an excellent working relationship with all stakeholders to ensure their longterm support for our pricing tools
  • Successfully collaborate across the Global Pricing team and all AGCS departments

What You'll Bring to the Role

  • Background in computer science with a willingness to learn coding languages
  • Experience in procedural programming languages required alongside a demonstrated ability to quickly pick up new languages and approaches.
  • Strong understanding of mathematical techniques.
  • Strong computer fundamentals: Excel, VBA and SQL experience preferred.
  • Problem solving mentality
  • High attention to detail with a focus on building systematic controls to ensure quality of delivery
  • Ability to work in an international / virtual environment
  • Exposure to data visualisation and/or wider user interface design an advantage
  • Partnering mentality with the ability to build strong working relationships with peers, management and the business areas.
  • Fluent English language skills

Further Information

  • You will be supported on a generous study package approximately 1 day a week to study towards your actuarial exams.
  • This apprenticeship will commence in September 2023.
