Job description:


IfATE is working to transform the skills Landscape; improving access to high quality apprenticeships and technical education and showcasing a more coherent system that follows the lead of employers.

It has a key role in ensuring technical qualifications and apprenticeships meet the needs of employers, and that the employer voice is heard in qualification development and approval.

IfATE already develops and approves apprenticeships, T Levels and Higher Technical Qualifications in close collaboration with employers.


The role of the
Project Support Officer covers a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of the project's objectives, This role is an exciting opportunity to assist the post-16 team with the smooth running of the project, providing project management and administrative support.


The post holder will be part of a high performing team leading lfATE's contribution to ensuring technical qualifications meet the needs of learners and employers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Project management: Provide support to the Post16 team to ensure processes are in place and continuously improved.
  • Risks and issues: Assist with managing specific risks and help maintain risks and issues logs.
  • Planning and scheduling: Work with the Post16 team to assist, implement or ensure effective planning and scheduling is in place
  • Administration: Support the administrative processes, including organising meetings, taking notes and ensuring organisational tasks are carried out
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Provide support and assist in monitoring progress against timelines and other project controls.

  • Hoc projects: Support of adhoc projects within the team and across IfATE where necessary.

Person specification:


In order to be eligible to undertake this apprenticeship, applicants cannot have a related qualification at Level 3 or above or extensive professional experience of business administration.

Applicants will also be required to achieve functional skills in English and maths at level 2 (or equivalent) if these are not already held.


You will be expected to work at pace, being adaptable and resilient; prioritizing and planning effectively, managing competing demands to deliver high-quality outcomes.

We are looking for a motivated self-starter with good written and verbal communication skills who can also pick up a variety of project-based tasks and be able to utilities both organizational and time management skills to perform the role successfully.


Essential Criteria

  • Excellent ability to multitask and prioritise work activities across a range of workstreams in a fastpaced environment.
  • The ability to demonstrate knowledge of project management tools and techniques.
  • Proficient use of key Microsoft Office packages including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and administrative skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of people including senior and external stakeholders._ _

  • An understanding of technical education development and the technical education landscape


Working flexibly is important to the success of the IfATE, and while you will have specific responsibilities as set out above, you will be part of a 'one team' approach and may be asked to be involved in a range of other activities.

As new areas of work progress, you may be asked to move between teams to deliver the Institute's key priorities.
