    Job description:


    This is an exciting opportunity to join the Digital and Analytical Services team at IfATE as it embarks upon implementation of a new Digital Strategy.

    The Institute Data Service is a key system, central to the production and maintenance of our technical education products.


    As Head of IDS, you will be responsible for ensuring the current service continues to meet the needs of the business whilst also playing a major role in the transition to a new solution as part of our Digital Strategy.


    We are looking for someone who:

    • Is passionate about meeting user needs,
    - understands the full product and service development, lifecycle from discovery through alpha, beta and live through to decommissioning,
    - works well under pressure,
    - can motivate and lead a team to deliver
    - has experience of working with a mix of internal and third party providers


    Purpose:
    The purpose of this role is to lead the development and continuous improvement of the Institute Data Service (IDS) ensuring:

    • Developments are focussed on meeting user needs and delivering business benefits.
    • A prioritised roadmap and backlog is agreed and communicated.
    • As part of the wider DAS leadership team, a vision for the service is maintained throughout the full development lifecycle, including decommissioning, ensuring user needs are safely transitioned.
    • Best practice is applied to IDS software development and release processes.
    As Head of IDS your specific
    responsibilities will include**:

    • Ensuring a focus on user needs throughout the development process from inception to adoption
    • Provide final sign off on any completed functional development prior to the deployment to the production environment
    • Lead the prioritisation process for the work that needs to be done, by creating and maintaining a product roadmap and backlog
    • Using product or service usage data, and user feedback to devise new ideas for functionality or new ways of working with a continuous improvement mindset and take a lead in promoting the evidence across the wider department.
    • As part of the wider DAS leadership team, champion and lead digitally enabled change, reenvisioning and promoting how services can be delivered to better meet user needs
    • Managing third party providers and contractor development resources, ensuring tight control of budgets, accurate forecasting and securing value for money.

    Person specification:


    Essential Criteria

    • Strong written, verbal, presentational and facilitation skills with the ability to explain technical issues to a nontechnical audience and influence and build consensus.
    • Experience and track record of inspiring, directing, motivating, organising and empowering a team decisively to reach a shared objective.
    • Experience of strategic planning, identifying longterm goals, understanding the implications of achieving them and formulating credible action plans for their attainment.
    • Experience of working to an agile methodology. Ability to demonstrate you understand and can explain the different phases of product development (discovery, alpha, beta and live) and can contribute to, plan or run these with an emphasis on meeting user needs.
    • Experience of managing the operational process of running a product or service throughout its entire product life cycle. Including planning, prioritising and putting new products, services or features into operation, overcoming operat
