Job description:


This is an exciting opportunity to join the Digital and Analytical Services team at IfATE as it embarks upon implementation of a new Digital Strategy.


The Head of Research and Analysis is a key role within IfATE crucial to ensuring the organisation has the data and analysis it needs to inform both policy and operational decision making.

Leading a team of analysts, the broad objectives for the role are to:

  • Support new policy and operational processes
  • for example, developing the methodology and metrics for assessing the efficiency and impact of operational work or supporting new policy developments such as Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Carry out or commission thematic research projects for example researching how well understood the skills system is by employers and the ways in which it is possible for people to progress through technical education pathways
  • Improve access to, and provision of, data and insight for decision making for example building and maintaining automated reports or gaining access to new administrative datasets to support the Institute's expanded remit for technical qualifications
  • As part of the wider DAS leadership team, champion and lead digitally enabled change, reenvisioning and promoting how services can be delivered to better meet user needs.

Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to lead the Research and Analysis team to deliver insightful and impactful analysis that will inform strategic and operational decision making


Key tasks include:

  • Working closely with the Executive and Senior Leadership Team to shape and understand IfATE's current and future strategic priorities, ensuring the data and analysis is available to drive policy development and decision making.
  • Provide analytical leadership within the organisation, ensuring high standards of quality assurance, reproducible analysis and technical approach.
  • As a member of the Digital and Analytical Services management team, support the Deputy Director in overall leadership and direction of the division.
  • Plan and prioritise the work of the Research and Analysis team including providing line management for 6 direct reports
  • Build and maintain relationships with key analysts in the Department for Education, the Education and Skills Funding Agency and in other departments where relevant. Work with external research organisations to understand other analysis and insights relevant to technical education.
  • Promote and ensure adherence across the organisation to the highest standards of data handling and usage, particularly where personal data is involved.

Person specification:


Essential Criteria

  • Experience of a wide range of research and analytical techniques and approaches including social research, data analysis and visualisation, data quality, data handling including data protection and use of statistics best practice
  • Strong written, verbal, presentational and facilitation skills with the ability to influence and build consensus. The ability to effectively translate between technical and nontechnical teams to ensure analytical work has impact.
  • Experience of tackling complex analytical problems and breaking them down into manageable pieces.
  • Experience of leading, inspiring, directing, motivating and organising a team decisively to deliver outcomes
