Job description:


We are seeking an organised ambitious individual to work across our team, contributing to our busy communications and external affairs functions.

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) works to equip people from all backgrounds for skilled occupations. Our role across government is to help every employer and individual get the skills they need to succeed.

We are an employer-led organisation, tasked with setting and maintaining high quality apprenticeship standards and technical education qualifications.


We work with a range of stakeholders including employers, training providers, professional bodies, ministers, parliamentarians, the Department for Education and other government agencies.


The communications officer will have a broad remit, working right across IfATE and the team, with an opportunity to learn about multiple different disciplines.

It is an ideal role for someone at the early stages of a communications career as it will give a chance to be multi-discipline.


The individual in question will have a fine attention to detail and the ability to spot mistakes and proactively resolve them.

They will have a passion for writing, and an ability to draft and edit copy into engaging plain English. They will also be able to contribute to a communications grid, and place a high value on planning ahead.


We are seeking a self-starter, who is willing to work across the team to alleviate pressure on colleagues and who balances their own workload to help shift as appropriate to support the rest of the team.

Most importantly the individual will be a fast learner, with a genuine interest in building a career in communications.

In exchange for their enthusiasm, they will receive high quality training and the opportunity to be a trusted member of the team covering across many different areas and frequently gaining experience at a higher level.

There is potential for the position to also include apprenticeship training.


Responsibilities

  • Support work of the digital, internal and media communications work of IfATE
  • Draft copy for different IfATE channels, support creation of GCS standard communications plans
  • Support drafting of briefing for Institute chief executive and senior leadership team ahead of stakeholder meetings and events
  • Contribute to proactive management of stakeholder relationships with parliamentarians, ministers, employers, training providers, professional bodies, the Department for Education and other government agencies

Person specification:

The individual will be a fast learner, seeking to hone their communications skills and with a willingness to throw themselves into new ways of working.


Essential Criteria

  • Good organisational skills and an ability to use a communications grid
  • Good written skills and the ability to communicate information clearly in plain English
  • The ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders
  • Basic knowledge of social media, media handling, internal communications and digital communications disciplines
  • A proactive attitude and an understanding of how to tailor enquiry responses to suit different groups so as to be as helpful as possible
