    Description
    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.

    We are a specialist service that strives to deliver an excellent standard of care to expectant and new mothers who are experiencing severe and complex mental health problems.

    The team is multi-disciplinary and works directly with women and their families providing assessment, and interventions within the perinatal period with a range of mental health needs.


    We are looking for a dynamic, passionate and creative clinician who wants to make a difference to the lives of families, and who strives to provide the best care at all times.

    You will have a passion for supporting both Adult and Infant Mental Health and an understanding of how psychological interventions may be applied within this specialty.

    The team base is in Bridgnorth, and we use other MPFT facilities across the county.

    To be responsible for the autonomous provision of a specialist psychological service to women and their babies who are in receipt of specialist perinatal mental health services.

    Complex assessments and psychological formulations of mental health.
    Consultation and advice to professionals across community settings.
    Undertake risk assessment and risk management, to include risks to the unborn child. Providing advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk management.
    To provide clinical supervision to psychologists in training, assistant psychologists and other professions as required
    Service development projects.
    To undertake training in specialist psychological interventions as required.

    To provide specialist psychological assessments for mothers in receipt of perinatal mental health services, taking into account the relationship with their baby and family using psychological theories and models.


    To interpret and integrate complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations, semi-structured interviews, and guided clinical inquiry methods with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care.

    To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, therapeutic treatment and discharge of mothers and their babies.


    To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients, to include risks to the unborn child or infant, and to provide advice to other professions, on psychological aspects of risk assessment, including the risk of self-harm, and risk management .


    To formulate and make decisions about the treatment and/or management of clients mental health problems, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual client and their relationship with their baby.


    In this respect, the post holder will be expected to deliver a relevant range of psychological interventions based on appropriate levels of experience and training.

    To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care and to monitor progress during the course of their treatment within the service

    To act as a care co-ordinator where appropriate, taking responsibility for planning and reviewing of care plans under CPA.

    Teaching, training and supervision

    To receive regular supervision and line management from the service manager and clinical supervision from lead perinatal clinical psychologist in agreement with the service Manager and Professional Lead and in accordance with Trust policy and professional practice guidelines.

    To participate in an agreed programme of post qualification training and professional development towards developing advanced knowledge and practice in the field of perinatal mental health and attachment.

    To develop skills in providing teaching, training and clinical supervision as required.

    To contribute to the supervision of individual cases for clinical psychology trainees. Following post 2 years qualification to take on full responsibility for supervision of clinical psychology trainees.

    To provide psychological advice, consultation, training and supervision to colleagues from a range of disciplines.


    To provide specialist psychological advice, consultation and training to staff working with this client group across a range of agencies and settings.

    Management, recruitment, policy and service development


    To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the services operational policies and procedures, through the use of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.


    To assist the Service Manager and other senior staff in the development of services within the agreed areas of responsibility.

    To be responsible for overseeing the implementation of service line evaluation in conjunction with the service manager.


    To liaise with the senior clinicians and the service manager in order to communicate any concerns about the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of the service.


    To use computers to write reports and record data, including the use of statistical packages as part of psychological testing, research and assessment when needed.


    To use computers to input data relating to staff diaries, clinical contacts and care planning in accordance with Trust Policies and Procedures.


    To undertake and contribute to projects, including audit and service evaluation, with colleagues in the service to help develop or improve service provision.


    To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes in consultation with the service Manager and Professional Lead.


    To contribute to the development of best practice within the service by continuing to develop the skills of a reflexive practitioner, in the specialist field of perinatal mental health.


    To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the B.C and Trust policies and procedures.


    To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both this client group and mental health.

    Post-graduate/Doctoral level qualification in Clinical Psychology as recognised by HCPC.

    An ability to formulate and provide treatment within at least two models of psychological therapy and the experience and a working knowledge of at least one other approach to psychological intervention.


    Experience working therapeutically with women and babies with significant emotional or mental health difficulties, and their families/carers
