We are offering 12 months Maternity Cover either as a fixed term contract or secondment opportunity for the role of lead Clinician Physical Health.


Are you a mental Health, Adult Nurse or Paramedic and are passionate about physical health care and an advocate for parity of esteem for those with mental health needs.

We are looking for a creative, flexible clinician that can demonstrate an exemplary focus on patient outcomes to Lead our Physical Health Work across the Trust.


As a senior clinician you will already be experienced in working within the field of physical Health Care within a Mental health setting or be working in a role where you have clinical, managerial and leadership responsibilities where you have experience of introducing system wide change.


Within this role you will be a key part of leading the the Trust strategic ambition to reduce health care inequalities for our patients.

You will work with member of the executive and operational directorate senior leaders and our direct care staff.


The post will support the development and implementation of Physical Health care across the Trust and will provide strategic operational and clinical leadership for nursing and the wider Multi Professional Teams.

You will link closely with the Integrated Care system as well as and other providers and partners across Southeast London.


Work as an autonomous practitioner providing expert, evidence-based practice to staff regarding Physical Health and Lead the development and delivery of evidence-based Physical Health Care across the Trust.

Provide expert advice on Physical Health issues within the Trust and externally, at local and national level. Contribute to the development and evaluation of physical health training programmes, working collaboratively with key stakeholders.

Provide expert clinical advice on Physical Health Care in the Trust Lead Physical Health service development in the Trust, working in collaboration with key stakeholders (within and outside the trust).

Initiate research, audit and Quality Improvement initiatives, and disseminate findings. Direct and lead Physical Health policy and practice. Provide professional leadership and support within, and external to the organisation.

The post holder requires highly advanced communication and influencing skills as they are required to work collaboratively with key stakeholders across professional and organisational boundaries within and outside the Trust
- at London, national and international level. They will often be required to galvanise the support of staff and departments they do not manage.


South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol.

We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre.

We provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.
