    Clinical Investigation Unit is a busy, fast paced department, where every day is different. Ideally, you would be working Monday to Friday 8 am till 4 or 5pm, but with the requirement to cover weekend and bank holiday if necessary.

    You will lead a small team of nurses, ensuring they are supported, encouraging their development, and managing their training requirements.

    You will be overseeing the smooth running of the service, dealing with the referrals from the teams that feed into CIU and be involved in the decision processes that occur with the ever developing role of the unit within the Trust.

    You will report directly to The Unit Manager and work closely with them to ensure high standards are met and maintained, and that the patients receive excellent care.

    Main duties of the job

    Clinical Investigations Unit is nurse led and you will be required to oversee the smooth running and support of the Preston Team currently based on Astley Ward, Chorley Hospital.

    The unit provides services and treatments from many sources, including Renal, Haematology, Gastroenterology and OPAT.

    You will be required to coordinate the bookings for the unit to ensure optimum treatments are undertaken, and ensure patient safety and a good patient experience is achieved and maintained.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    Duties to include but not be limited to:

  • You will work in a small team and perform a wide range of roles.
  • You will have excellent interpersonal and administrative skills including IT proficiency.
  • You will be able to work well and support your team, work autonomously, be able to use your initiative and be willing to acquire new skills and knowledge. Attention to detail and accuracy in your work will be a key characteristic.
  • You will be able to work in a busy environment which is at times stressful and have a strongly held commitment to high standards of service delivery.
  • You will need to possess a positive approach within a constantly changing organisation.

    Qualifications

    Essential criteria

  • Appropriate NMC Registration
  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing
  • NMC recognised Mentorship qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional education or development in area of speciality
  • Desirable criteria

  • Post registration qualification in area of speciality area
  • Knowledge

    Essential criteria

  • Evidence of leadership experience and learning.
  • Awareness of recent advances within Nursing practice
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and safeguarding and the relevance to practice
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
  • Experience of implementing changes to benefit patients and improve nursing practice
  • Knowledge of Ethical issues
  • Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality eg surgery
