This is an opportunity for a Paediatric Dietitian with an interest in Diabetes to join our team of three Paediatric Dietitians to cover a 1-year fixed term maternity Post.

We cover a range of specialism's including neonates, cystic fibrosis, allergy and gastroenterology.


We are a team of 17 Dietitians including adults and paeds covering a range of inpatient wards at Watford General Hospital.


You will lead and develop the Paediatric Diabetes service and within multidisciplinary setting to enable the provision of best practice.


The post holder will be involved in specialist clinics, group education sessions and will act as a source of expertise.

The clinics are currently held on Tuesday at Hemel Hempstead Hospital and Friday at Watford General Hospital.

The department is involved in the training and supervision of student dietitians and the training of other healthcare professionals.

There are also opportunities for course funding both externally and through the department's links with the University of Hertfordshire.

To provide advanced paediatric service to paediatric inpatients, outpatients and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Watford General Hospital. Working as part of the multidisciplinary paediatric team provide shared care for patients with the relevant tertiary specialist centres.


To provide advanced paediatric Diabetes service to inpatients, outpatients and in the community working as part of the multidisciplinary paediatric team.

To provide specialist nutrition and dietetic advice in paediatric diabetes to medical, health care professionals and other agencies.

To provide expert dietary advice to paediatric diabetes patients on insulin pumps.


To provide expert assessment, management and education for patients requiring specialist dietetic and nutrition intervention by using evidence based practice and conforming to best practice guidelines for paediatric Diabetes.

To plan, coordinate and evaluate Dietetic service provision to Paediatrics Diabetes making recommendation for service development where appropriate.


To plan, deliver and evaluate formal and informal training within paediatric diabetes to audiences of other health care professionals, staff and patients, including internal and external study days.


To lead in research and development in paediatric Diabetes by initiating, planning and undertaking clinical audits/research projects to evaluate and develop the specialist dietetic service and produce evidence based resources, protocols, policies and guidelines.


To work as integral part of acute paediatric Dietetic team in ensuring that paediatric service is fully covered over the periods of leave.

To provide shared care for patients with tertiary specialist centres and community Home Enteral Feeding team. Liaising with appropriate teams to ensure safe transfer of care takes place between the centres.

To provide paediatric out-patient service to patients referred by consultants (including on-call service) and GPs


To provide specialist reports for children who are on the Child Protection register and to teams supporting vulnerable children as requested.

To provide expert advice to GP's, Health Visitors and Community Children's Nurses as required.


To provide education and training to Dietitians, Dietetic students and other healthcare professionals (HCPs) in nutrition and dietetic specialities to facilitate continuous learning and development.
