Building Surveyor

Salary £34,000 (to reflect experience)
40 hours a week, Monday to Friday (8am to 6pm core hours)

26 days holiday plus 8 Bank Holidays:

As a building surveyor, you will provide professional advice on property and construction; ranging from identifying structure defects, damp to general repairs of properties.

You will complete detailed building surveys; identifying defects and advising on repairs and maintenance requirements. You will make recommendations in order to maintain buildings in a sustainable condition and fit for habitation.


You will need to be able to estimate the timescales for completing the work tasks, including planning the sequence of visits required for multi trade activities.

This is the right opportunity for you if you can:

  • Carry out pre and post inspections ensuring the works are in full compliance with the requirements of client, company specifications and legislation.
  • Be responsible for organising and carrying out property surveys to households to determine if they require repairs or planned works undertaking to bring the property to the standard required by relevant legislation and / or our clients.
  • Advising the customer of the purpose of the inspection and requesting cooperation where access is required to specific areas of the property.
  • Determining accuracy, validating, authorising, auditing of documentation and electronic records.
  • Liaise with other departments, contractors, partners and agencies to provide a coordinated approach and satisfactory quality completion of the required works within the specific timescales and to budget.
  • Respond verbally, in writing and or facetoface, requests for information from customers, clients, utility providers, and other internal departments.

The main requirements are for you to have a working knowledge of the following in relation to conducting property surveys:

  • Landlord and Tenant Act 198
  • Housing Act 198
  • Environmental Protection Act 1990
  • The Housing Health & Safety Rating System (England) Regulations 200
  • Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 201
  • Defective Premises Act 197
  • Occupiers Liability Act 195
  • Government Decent Homes Standard June 2006 (update)
  • Right to Repair Qualifying Repairs categories

Qualifications

  • HNC in Construction qualification or Trade qualification
  • Health & Safety Qualification
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • CSCS Card
