About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF THE POWER OF LISTENING

Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where little things can have a huge impact on people's lives.

Take Mitin, our Head of Estates Services.

Mitin's team is responsible for cleaning, gardening and bulk refuse removal across several housing estates where many of our residents require a greater degree of assistance.

It's not just about keeping our blocks and estates shipshape, it's about human contact and letting residents know that we care.

Mitin's team contribute to our Smart City commitment and make full use of new technology to help track and solve problems such as fly tipping and graffiti.

But what many residents value most is his ability to listen.

For example, when residents were telling him about carrying out gardening improvements and the positive impact that it has on their wellbeing, he and his team engaged with residents, working closely with them to give them garden areas they could be proud of and a vibrant community.

Mitin is immensely proud of the relationships he's built with residents, not only because it helps them feel proud of where they live in a greener and cleaner city, but because it makes him proud of where he works.

The Role:

As Waste Action Squad Programme Leader, you can make your own powerful contribution to a high profile project that will shape the way we keep Westminster's streets clean.

The multi-disciplinary Waste Action Squad programme is all about tackling waste and fly tipping in a holistic way.

Combining engagement, education, enforcement and behavioural change initiatives, we'll develop solutions to littering and dumping in partnership with the community.

You will enjoy scope to shape both your role and programme delivery.

We'll look to you to set a clear plan for delivering lasting on-street improvements across the City of Westminster.

Enjoying a high degree of autonomy, you'll work to design and develop the programme with key stakeholders across directorates - from cabinet members, to residents' societies and local businesses.

Gathering information from a range of sources, you'll help to ensure we not only manage concerns and feedback, but also understand what drives poor behaviour, so we can prevent recurrence.

Coordinating activity to keep streets clean and well-managed is a complex undertaking, so you'll matrix manage across a variety of services - from waste enforcement and street management, to waste collection and recycling.

You will coordinate on street activity between our waste contractor and the on-street teams who clean the streets of Westminster, within the realms of the programme.

And, to facilitate a community-based approach to engagement, education and enforcement, you'll also work closely with a range of communications and community-focused teams.

About You:

With proven experience of developing and delivering multi-disciplinary projects within a large organisation, you have what it takes to lead, make decisions and drive progress.

Naturally, the ability to influence, advise and build great working relationships with all kinds of people will also be key to your success.
