2. Key Responsibilities 1.

Under guidance to carry out day to day routine maintenance of mechanical services plant and equipment throughout Trust properties and other organisations as directed.

2.

To carry out planned maintenance work. 3. To carry out new mechanical works as and when required to the appropriate Codes of Practice and Regulations. 4.

Interpret work from all instructions, drawings and specifications. 5.

To diagnose and repair faults in mechanical plant and equipment:

  • Under supervision year 1 Pipework Services Ductwork Systems Plumbing Systems Hot and Cold water installations including requirements for control of Legionella LPHW and MPHW systems water treatment Boilers and ancillaries, Pumps and valves Air conditioning equipment and controls Heating controls, boiler controls and associated equipment Air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment Laundry and sterilising plant and equipment Waste disposal and sluicing equipment Medical Gas systems. Various other hospital equipment and installations Decontamination system 7.
To ensure stock levels are maintained and order stock as required. 8. Understand fully the inter-relationship between various maintenance crafts and to participate in the multi skilling in place (once trained). 9.


To carry out work in accordance with working at height and permit to work systems on various functions in various conditions i.e.

confined space, 10. To work from ladders, to erect and work from scaffold (once trained) and safe use of safety harness system. 11.

To carry out work of a lesser trade.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To work closely with Ward Managers and work along side patients and have an understanding of their needs whilst carrying out duties.

Establish good working relationships with all points of contact with estate users, ensuring they are kept informed about the progress of work as required.

Driving hospital vehicles and plant as required (not H.G.V.).


The post holder on completion of their training will be expected to participate in The out of hours on call rota which involves multi skilling across all trades, bringing you into contact with sewage and other bodily fluids (for which protective equipment must be worn).

The post holder will be expected to work at any properties throughout the Trust as instructed by the Estates Officer (Operational).

The post holder will on occasions be required to work overtime/change working hours if the need of service dictates.

All Trust employees are expected to maintain existing skills and develop/receive training in new skills as required to carry out work of the Trust.


The content of this post will be reviewed in consultation with the postholder when necessary and in line with the service developments.
