Description

We are seeking an expert practitioner in echocardiography to join our cardiac physiology team in NHSGGC South Sector; based primarily at the West Glasgow Ambulatory Care Hospital.

The role includes contributing to the clinical leadership of the echo service, and development and supervision of staff, as well as contributing to the operational management of the WGACH cardiac physiology service as a whole.

It is a growing echo service, which includes echo provision to several regional services including the Adult Congenital Heart Disease service.

NHSGGC serves the largest catchment population in Scotland, with South Sector hospitals serving more than half of this with a cardiac physiology workforce of 58 WTE.

Although an ambulatory care hospital, the cardiac physiology department at WGACH provides complex as well as routine diagnostic procedures to a substantial population.

In addition, WGACH participates in several GGC-wide Physiologist-led GP direct access services (including the investigation of murmurs, palpitations and heart failure).

Located at Yorkhill at present, the department is expected to relocate to new accommodation in the near future and the team are currently participating in the re-design process.

The echocardiography service at WGACH provides transthoracic echo support to cardiology outpatient clinics as part of a one stop model; which includes the ACHD service, a large outpatient echo cohort and GP direct access echo services for the investigation of murmurs and heart failure.

There are plans to further develop the service in a number of areas including 3D echo and Physiologist-led valve clinics.

The postholder would also have the opportunity to participate in specialised echo clinics at other sites according to their interests and expertise, including inherited cardiac conditions clinics and obstetric cardiology clinics, both at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH).

South Sector Imaging Consultants are research-active and the postholder would be expected to utilise this resource to develop Physiologist-led projects.

WGACH has a large device follow up service including approx. 250 CRT and ICD patients.

Pacemaker implantation is performed at QEUH with complex device implantation presently undertaken by the Golden Jubilee National Hospital; with plans to develop this service at QEUH.

WGACH performs the usual repertoire of routine non-invasive testing, including provision of a RACPC.

There are 3 NHSGGC Consultant Cardiologists based at WGACH and a large cohort of visiting Cardiologists from both the Jubilee and elsewhere in NHSGGC, who have a broad range of clinical interests.

The Consultant body is very research-active and there would be the opportunity to utilise this resource to support and develop Physiology-led projects.

NHS GGC has a Managed Clinical Network for Heart Disease which provides a forum for South Sector Physiologists to take an active role in wider service developments.

There is also good clinician engagement in the development of extended scope roles for Physiologists.
