Description

LET'S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

Want to do the best work of your life? Playing your part in making a big difference to the environment and communities we serve. Our people make Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work - a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine.

Our purpose is taking care of life's essentials, but we're also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care.

Within our Procurement and Contract Management team here in Coventry, we're recruiting a Senior Category Manager, to strategically own, manage and deliver projects related to renewable energy.

As our new Senior Category Manager, you'll manage the full end to end delivery of the category, which has a value of c.£30m - £60m.

You'll aim to deliver a sustainable supply chain to ensure our external expenditure is effectively managed, to deliver the lowest cost and highest standards.

You will have excellent knowledge of the construction industry and experience in using standard form construction contracts (e.g. NEC, FIDIC etc.) Any experience within the renewable energy sector would be a bonus but is not essential.

You'll be working with senior stakeholders across the business, so communication skills are key in this role and as a senior member of the team, you'll be on hand to guide and support our Buyers and Category Managers as they look to progress in their careers.

Sound like you? Then read on.

LET'S TELL YOU MORE

Your key accountabilities in helping us will be:

  • Profile and research supply markets and suppliers to assess trends, opportunities and risks
  • Develop and implement category strategies which fulfil business requirements against costs and performance and recommend strategic sourcing options and implementation plans that ensure compliance with legislative requirements
  • Proactively lead tendering and supplier selection processes
  • Monitor the usage of contracts implemented and put in place actions to maximise contract compliance
  • Lead negotiations with sophisticated suppliers through proven negotiation tactics
  • Ensure the timely delivery of Procurement projects which achieve targeted savings and drive a high value outcome for Severn Trent Water

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You'll join our team with a strong commercial background, ideally within a regulated environment, similar sector or large, complex organisation.

From a technical standpoint, you'll have experience and knowledge of modern purchasing processes (e.g. managing tenders & contracts), alongside a good understanding of end-to-end category management, with a proven ability to develop and articulate category strategies.

Additionally, it would be advantageous if you hold an appropriate professional qualification (e.g. CIPS).

Of course, it's important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.

We want people who show up and roll their sleeves up. Restless spirits who are ready to be part of something bigger, who care, who really care... because when you really care, you'll go above and beyond. When you really care you don't just talk about it, you do more.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities.

We employ thousands of people from across our community who really care about what they do. Because that is how we do what we do.

And when it comes to inclusion, we're making sure we keep up the progress with our wonderful working groups - LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity; who help us do just that.

We do more, because we care.
