Researcher and Social Media Content Writer


We're looking for a brilliant volunteer Researcher and Social Media Content Writer with exceptional writing skills and experience in public relations and working with the media and press.

About us:


International Communications Organisation (ICO) is a London-based international organisation with UN consultative status and working for peace in divided conflict affected areas with a specific focus on minority rights.

ICO is independent, neutral and dedicated to the protection of human rights and giving a voice to those who need it.

Researcher and Content Writer


BACKGROUND
ICO wishes to grow its external media presence on the platforms of LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. ICO has accounts created for these platforms - however we are not regularly active on any of these pages. We wish to implement a consistent posting schedule on these platforms to promote engagement with our work.

The main content of this new posting schedule will be informative briefings.

The purpose of these briefs would be
to inform ICO's social media audience about the state peace and conflict in the locations in which ICO works.

Briefings should focus on conflict dynamics, peace interventions and their impact, regional/international response and geopolitical dynamics; impact on conflict on community, society and economy.

Briefings should vary in size (short form and longer form) to keep audience engaged.


BRIEFS
These global affairs briefings would not be in favour of a political position, but would be written in accordance with ICO's stance on independence and neutrality


ICO's core locations are:

  • Kosovo
  • Cameroon
  • Israel & Palestine
  • Cyprus
The writing pieces would seek to offer an informative update.


For this position, ICO is also hoping that volunteers use Canva and Piktochart to design briefs in line with ICO style guide, in order to edit and design the content.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in International Relations, Human Rights, Politics or any Political Science degree. A Masters Degree is preferable.
  • Must possess exceptional writing skills and be able to compose engaging and accurate content
  • Must possess
    strong research skills, required to write short essay style briefs
  • Knowledge of Adobe, Canva and Piktochat and Mail Chimp is an asset
  • Experience working in the charity/nonprofit sector is encouraged
  • Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team
  • Superior time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of communications, public relations and marketing best practices
  • Ability to think strategically and identify ways to improve communication efforts
  • Must be resourceful and take initiative even when given mínimal direction

Key Responsibilities:
-
Researching and
writing briefs
to inform ICO's social media audience about the state peace and conflict in the locations in which ICO works.

  • Working with management to create and plan social media strategies and campaigns to enhance brand image and voice
  • Creating and maintaining a robust relationship with the media to promote the company's image
  • Coordinating promotional events and attending news conferences, press launches and exhibitions
  • Monitoring and responding to feedback from the media and the public about the organisation on traditional and digital channels
  • Recording media coverage and measuring impact of publicity campaigns on audience engagement
  • Developing and disseminating public relations materials that increase visibility among stakeholders
  • Ensuring that digital marketing content aligns with the company's brand identity and message
