What's your role in Society?

We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Assistant Geo-environmental Consultant
to join our Land Quality Scotland** team within our Geo-Environmental Advisory Business Unit.


Within this role you will be required to undertake both office and site based work supporting UK wide project delivery for a range of public and private sector clients.


What does the role involve?

  • Providing consultancy services in relation to geoenvironmental assessments, contaminated land remediation, and contaminated land related construction risk.
  • Assisting in preparing desk study, site investigation, risk assessments and validation reports.
  • Managing site investigations including undertaking soil and rock logging, field screening, groundwater monitoring and sampling, ground gas and vapour monitoring and sampling.
  • Providing site supervision during remediation, demolition and construction programmes including liaison with internal/external clients and subcontractors.
  • Supporting preparation of outline and detailed remediation designs, and providing input to contract documents (WI / SI / PCI), and earthworks specifications.
  • Developing and enhancing existing skills in procurement and management of subcontractors.

Environmental Policy:

taking care of your own and others health and safety whilst at work; cooperating with your employer as far as necessary to enable them to perform their statutory duty and not intentionally or recklessly interfering with or misusing anything provided in the interest of health and safety or welfare.


  • Working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Developing and enhancing existing skills in geoenvironmental assessments.
  • Supporting in the production of proposals/bids.
  • Preparing well written clear, accurate and well presented reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Travel and overnight stays.

To be successful in this role you'll possess:

  • An MSc in Land contamination/ hydrogeology or another relevant field (preferable but not essential).
  • Working towards chartership of a recognised accreditation through a relevant professional body (CGeol, CEng, CIWEM, SiLC, SoBRA).
  • Demonstrable experience of contaminated land investigation, assessment, reporting and remediation.
  • Knowledge of best practice and legislation in the brownfield redevelopment industry.
  • Client focused attitude with a good track record of successful project delivery.
  • Excellent IT skills with advanced skills in MS Office.
  • Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and contractors.
  • Full UK driving licence.
