Job summary
Applications are invited for enthusiastic, dedicated colleagues to join the existing consultant gastroenterologists to work mainly at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. A particular interest in upper gastrointestinal disease (including therapeutic endoscopy), inflammatory bowel disease and/or bowel cancer screening and/or intestinal failure would be welcomed. Clinical responsibility includes outpatient and endoscopy lists as well as supporting inpatient care which is shared on a 7-day consultant of the week model. And will also participate in the GI bleed rota. Successful candidates will be encouraged and supported to further develop their own skills and will also be expected to be involved in Undergraduate and Postgraduate education and research.
Main duties of the job
The post holders will be responsible, together with other members of the department for the provision of a high-quality secondary and/or tertiary gastroenterology service to complement the existing sub-specialisation within the department. The final job plan would be agreed on appointment; however, the successful candidate would be expected to undertake a mix of general gastroenterology, endoscopy, GI Bleed on call and ward cover. Development of a sub-speciality interest is encouraged; a particular interest in upper gastrointestinal disease (including therapeutic endoscopy), advanced endoscopy/bowel cancer screening, intestinal failure or inflammatory bowel disease would be welcomed. Depending on the needs of the department, the job plan could have elements of flexible working or annualised sessions.
