- Degree, HND level or equivalent qualification in Physics or related Engineering course, combined with a wide-ranging interest in optical systems and applications.
- Familiarity with incoherent lighting system design and materials used in: Reflectors, Lenses and Filters
- Familiarity with Photometric and Radiometric system units and conversions.
- Understanding of colorimetric behaviour of components.
- Understanding of test methodologies for optical systems.
- Understanding of ray-tracing methods for design and prediction of optical behaviour
- Knowledge of LED and filament source behaviours.
- Strong mathematical abilities.
- Good team working, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Experience of working alongside mechanical engineers to understand packaging and manufacturing constraints
- Experience of working within CAD packages e.g. Rhino 3D, Solidworks, Catia
- Excellent attention to detail
- Knowledge or experience of electrical and thermal characteristics of LEDs
- Experience with ray-tracing software e.g. Lucidshape, ASAP, Zemax
- Knowledge of Photo-realistic rendering for visualisation of optical designs
- Basic understanding of C++ & VBA
- Hands-on technical skills for building and testing prototype lighting systems.
