What is the role?


The jobholder will be responsible for ensuring reliable day-to-day operation of the waste reception and processing including duty of care, residues management and handling including mobile plant operations, weighbridge operations and effective supervision of the team to ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental and operational procedures of the plant under all situations and in all conditions.

This also includes liaison with waste suppliers and ash disposal companies to ensure contractual obligations are met.

The role is worked on a rotating two shift pattern that includes day-work, with late and early starts, weekends and public/bank holidays, and provides shift-rota cover, including stand-by cover as required, to assist with the continuous 24/7 operation of the facility.


What you will be doing?
Please see below a brief overview of the role and the responsibilities

  • Supervises and deploys operational manpower within all operational procedures and as appropriate, to ensure safe, cost effective and efficient operation of all waste and residue management activities on site, including waste inputs, bunker management, residue management and removal and duty of care compliance procedures.
  • Optimisation of waste delivery and ash disposal schedules.
  • Optimisation / management of bulk consumable deliveries.
  • Directs and coordinates resources to meet plant and business requirements.
  • Maintains and enforces Company policies and procedures, environmental compliance, and safety and health requirements.
  • Ensures that all company and site procedures and risk assessments are always adhered to.
  • Ensures all inputs of waste and consumable deliveries etc. and outputs of products and residues, are recorded accurately, certifying that all data and paperwork is complete and accurate in accordance with company and legislative duty of care requirements.
Desirable qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE level (Maths and English), NVQ equivalent, or more than 5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
  • Understanding of waste regulations, duty of care, transfer notes, weighbridge calibration and weighbridge software operation.
  • Familiar with PTW, SSOW, RAMS, environmental permit and health and safety (HASAW) regulations.
  • Recognized Safety training such as IOSH or similar qualification required as a minimum.
  • Professional memberships and certifications (or working towards them) from professional bodies such as CIWM, WAMITAB.

  • Willingness to work flexible shift patterns including weekend working by rota.
  • Commitment to high standards, with a good level of numeracy and literacy, customer care and attention to detail.
