Salary (Grade 7): £39,607 to £46,771 with the potential to progress to £50,858 per annum inclusive of London Weighting.

Responsibilities:


As a Technical Specialist, you will play a pivotal role within the College's Division of Biosciences, managing, operating and maintaining our advanced microscopy equipment, including unique and bespoke systems.


Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Proficiently managing and using our highend microscopes and associated software. Currently this area includes, a Deltavision highresolution microscope; automated live cell microscope (Cytation 5); Nikon spinning disk confocal microscope; Nikon Eclipse TE2000s confocal microscope; as well as a variety of other specialised florescent instruments.
  • Delivering training to staff and students, ensuring safe operation and maintenance of our instruments.
  • Developing experimental protocols and supporting teaching and research projects.
  • Providing essential support / resilience to our Technical Specialist (Biosciences) overseeing our range of flow cytometry instrumentation.
  • Cosupport a range of advanced equipment, including Realtime PCR machines, Ultrahighspeed centrifuges, Next Generation Sequencers, and more.
  • Active involvement in health and safety management of our Biosciences facilities.

Requirements:


  • Proficiency in using and maintaining our highend microscopy instruments and equipment.
  • Indepth knowledge and experience in relevant health and safety legislation and risk assessment protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to colleagues and students.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and obtaining / maintaining Science Council registration (at least RSci level) and Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (or higher).
