Job Description:


We're looking for experienced and enthusiastic Associate Director Marine Ecologist to join our highly skilled and passionate marine ecology team that provides high quality and innovative services to our clients.


You'll have a proven track record in providing marine ecology inputs to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) in support of major marine infrastructure development projects.

You'll be able to demonstrate consultancy experience and the provision of marine ecological services across a wide range of development projects.

You'll have worked closely with design engineers to intercept, minimise and mitigate potential environmental effects, engaging and consulting across a wide range of audiences, as well as effectively managing resources and budgets.


Examples of some projects we're currently working on:

  • Scoping and EIA for the two interconnector routes between Scotland and England.
  • Alignment of Phase 1 & 2 National ESIAs to IFC standard.
  • Site walkovers and reporting on water and sediment quality results taken from the site of the incident.
  • Longterm postconstruction monitoring of the Mersey Gateway Bridge between Widnes and Runcorn. Terrestrial, freshwater and estuarine ecological monitoring, in addition to regular hydrodynamic monitoring of the channel alignment.
  • ESIAs (to IFC Performance Standards) for the immersive 7star luxury hospitality experience on the Red Sea.
  • Fish rescue team, conducting an operation to extract fish from temporary cofferdams in the river.
  • Feasibility study for restoration of saltmarsh habitat at Langstone Harbour.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Plan and organise project studies such as deskbased studies, scopes of work for subcontractors, specification of surveys and modelling studies where needed (e.g. underwater sound, sediment dispersion)
  • Design, procure and participate in intertidal and subtidal surveys, data analysis and reporting
  • Habitat and species identification (insitu, from video etc.), biotope determination
  • Undertake and review baseline and impact studies in line with international biodiversity standards
  • Project management tasks such as managing budgets, programme, subcontractors, and the quality assurance of deliverables
  • Input to or lead on both technical and commercial proposals
  • Contribute to marketing and business development, including internal and external presentations and client liaison
  • Mentor and help to develop junior marine ecologists
  • Collaborate with other environmental disciplines, such as acoustics and coastal processes

Qualifications:


Minimum Requirements:

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Motivation to work independently, as well as working in close collaboration with marine ecology colleagues
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of marine EIA process and undertaking associated assessments (HRA / WFD / MCZ) to established standards
  • Experience of working with design engineers, regulators and stakeholders
  • Specialist knowledge in one or more key areas including: underwater sound impacts; the ecology of fish or marine mammals; international biodiversity performance standards; tropical habitats; analysis of complex marine data sets; and marine survey design and planning
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of adjacent disciplines including coastal processes and hydrodynamics, acoustics, water scientists etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recognised degree in marine biology / ecology or a related a biological or science discipline
  • Membership of CIEEM or similar professional body (or eligible to qualify for this status)
