    Job Description

What your new role will entail.

In your new role as Commercial Project Manager - Environment & Sustainability, in AECOM's Environment, Water & Energy (EWE) Business Line, you will play a crucial role in enhancing project commercial outcomes and driving commercial best practice and learning. By leveraging your expertise in consultancy, engineering construction contracts, program, and change management, you will support and uplift project managers (PMs) in commercial matters. This includes mitigating risks, minimising lost margin, and fostering commercial best practices to boost project performance and client satisfaction.

Reporting to the Assistant Commercial Director and working under the direction of the Business Unit Operations Director or commercial team, your responsibilities will span across multiple projects. Key duties include:

    • Assisting PMs, Project Directors, and Lead Verifiers in the commercial management of projects to ensure successful delivery.
    • Applying your knowledge of contract management to enhance project performance, focusing on critical aspects like insurances, programme, delay damages, and key contract dates.
    • Using contract administration platforms such as CEMAR and Asite to oversee and act on client communications and instructions.
    • Identifying and managing Early Warnings, participating in Risk Reduction meetings, and facilitating Compensation Events and their implementation.
    • Applications for Payment, Forecasts to Complete, and project programs.
    • Participating in project reviews, commercial discussions with clients and suppliers, and ensuring the execution of action items.
    • Coaching technical staff to heighten their commercial awareness and expertise.
    • Working to reduce disallowed costs and efficiently manage expenditures from AECOM and its subcontractors.
    • Contributing to Go/No-Go decisions for new projects or significant changes to existing projects.

    Scope of projects:

    • Energy transition projects including green hydrogen / ammonia, offshore / onshore wind, solar farms, battery storage, pumped hydro schemes
    • Water engineering, water scarcity
    • Carbon advisory – ESG, energy utilisation
    • Digital tools
    • Environment Impact / Biodiversity Net Gain
    • Ground investigation programmes (road; rail; carbon capture hubs)
    • International projects: Latin America, Middle East, Asia, India

    Being part of the team.

This role is part of a dynamic commercial team within the Environment & Sustainability (E&S) Business Unit of the EWE Business Line. Our E&S team fosters a culture of trust and collaboration, comprising 700 professionals, including Scientists, Engineers, and Project Managers. We specialize in providing consultancy services across diverse sectors, serving clients in the UK, Europe, and worldwide, with our projects reaching as far as the Middle East and Africa.

The EWE team is at the forefront of AECOM's strategic purpose and acts as a global centre of excellence – to provide leading consultancy and infrastructure services in the fields of sustainability, social equity, net zero, carbon advisory, renewable energy and water scarcity. As such, you will be involved in negotiating and supporting various projects, where AECOM's UKI team is a leader.

There are multiple future career development opportunities, from Project Management through to Operations or Commercial functions, or taking commercial responsibility for a Practice or Business Unit.

As well as all the above, we offer a flexible hybrid working model. As a member of our team, you will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package with a range of flexible choices covering health, finance, lifestyle, well-being and more.

Here's what we will need from you.

As CPM, you will be experienced at directly communicating with clients, subcontractors, and subconsultants to proactively resolve any commercial performance concerns/risks. Additionally, you will be conversant and familiar with contract governance under principally NEC NEC3 EEC and PSC frameworks (all main Option types) and preferably JCT and FIDIC suites.

Furthermore, you will support the Project Manager and Project Accountant by addressing commercial and financial risk aspects. You will possess outstanding skills in managing stakeholders and provide guidance on these matters as necessary, including reporting on internal projects to AECOM Operations, Finance, and Risk/Commercial stakeholders, in addition to Directors.

In addition to the above, you will need the following:

    • Degree in engineering / quantity surveying (or equivalent qualification).
    • Experience in project, commercial and risk management, including client facing roles.
