    Role
    Forbes Solicitors are looking for a 0 3 year PQE Solicitor to join our Contentious Trusts and Probate team at the Walton Summit office near Preston. This is a full-time role working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

    The team is split across the firm's Preston and Manchester offices and consists of eight fee earners.

    The team is currently ranked Tier 2 in the Legal 500 and can claim credibly to have real expertise in handling contentious probate ("CTP") work. It specialises exclusively in this practice area.

    The team is made up of fee earners who have experience and a proven track record of successfully handling CTP work with many years PQE between them. All advisors have completed already the ACTAPS qualification or are on their way to doing so.

    We act for clients from all over the country and internationally.

    This is a great opportunity for a Solicitor who is looking to build on their current experience in this practice area or who has no experience currently but aspires to move into this practice area and to progress their current career by joining a collaborative and professional team that will invest in their development. Whilst the role will be working to the fast-pace, client focussed and high standards of a law firm, the role will also provide a sustainable work-life balance.

    The Solicitor role will be responsible for delivering successful outcomes such as:

  • Meeting targeted key performance indicators;
  • Handling a varied case load of probate disputes primarily consisting of cases concerning the administration and/or the distribution of an estate or a trust including:
    • the validity of lifetime transactions,
    • the validity or rectification or the interpretation of a Will,
    • proprietary estoppel and/or constructive trust claims,
    • challenging the validity of a trust or the decisions made by trustees,
    • claims for financial provision under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975,
    • claims against professional advisors in relation to Wills, trust and estate planning, and
    • contested Court of Protection matters.
  • Attending Court hearings across the wide variety of cases listed above.
  • Provision of written and verbal legal advice;
  • Communications with client, opponents, Courts/Tribunals and third parties to progress files;
  • Supporting other advisors on their own cases, and the delivery of the departmental strategy and business objectives;
  • Management, supervision, training, coaching and mentoring of (and delegation of work to) Paralegals to facilitate the achievement of their business objectives and professional development goals;
  • Ensuring compliance with internal and external business requirements including ISO:9001 quality control, SRA Principles / Code of Conduct, Court & Tribunal deadlines;
  • Monitoring and reporting on own financial and business performance, to deliver work in a profitable manner;
  • Contributing towards internal continuous improvement, innovation and knowledge sharing;
  • Inter-departmental support and collaboration on joint files, projects and events;
  • Contributing to the development of the departmental business plan;
  • Building positive relationships with current/prospective clients and enhancing the firm's profile, to drive business growth;
  • Contributing to business development including training events, articles/newsletters, Chambers & Legal 500 submissions, etc.

    We will be progressing applicants to the next stage based on applications demonstrating the following knowledge, experience, and skills:

  • be a qualified Solicitor/Legal Executive (or equivalent); - Essential
  • previous experience of working with Contentious Trusts and Probate/Litigation; - Essential
  • previous experience in handling contentious probate work is an advantage but not essential;
  • have proven competence in their IT skills (outlook, word, case management and other systems experience);
  • have the ability to work as part of a team;
  • good client care skills, providing professional and competent legal advice in accordance with SRA Code of Conduct;
  • proven experience of handling own caseload, working to and managing deadlines, alongside the Capability to generate fees in accordance with agreed targets;
  • good writing and drafting skills, with excellent communication and technical ability
  • have excellent attention to detail and organisational skills;
  • have an interest in long term development/progression in the department;
  • have good communication skills, both written and verbal;
