- Lead on the design & implementation of the assessment strategy & approach to ensure consistent, objective, reliable and valid data sits at the heart of our people selection decisions.
- Line manage Assessment Specialists in the team including coaching, development and promoting high performance against objectives to support business outcomes.
- Design, build and implement selected in-house assessment materials, based on in-depth collaborative consultation with stakeholders, and vendor management of outsources Partners in this space.
- Design and deliver assessment processes for internal capability and leadership development programmes.
- Develop and maintain an assessment methodology and framework by level, with supporting tools to be consistently adopted across the business, inclusive of executive hiring.
- Partner closely with the heads of Recruitment, Talent, Learning, Leadership Development, Executive Hiring and D&I to ensure strategic alignment and efficient delivery across the Business.
- Partner with the business to fully understand the various assessment needs and provide expert advice on the optimal methodologies and tools.
- Create assessment experiences that are engaging, highly personalised and designed for today's digital world.
- Deliver an end-to-end in-house Executive Assessment service for hiring development or talent needs. Including conducting leadership assessments, bespoke report writing and providing expert guidance and advice to individuals and managers.
- Provide qualified, expert advice and guidance on all recruitment selection processes and tools.
- Stay abreast of the on the latest industry knowledge and practices to ensure we merge best practice with business needs to find the best fit in our assessment solutions.
- Identify, test and embed new assessment techniques, to continuously develop our ability to effectively make robust selection decisions.
- Leading the Assessment team to monitor assessment activity for adverse impact and driving corrective action where it is found.
- Identify, track, analyse and validate key data sources to help build insights into the value and effectiveness of assessment tools.
- Leading the assessment team to conduct internal research, bringing assessment data to life to tell powerful people-stories and demonstrate the business impact of assessments. For example, conducting internal criterion-related validation studies where appropriate.
- Designing and implementing assessment centres in relevant Business areas, tracking success and continually evolving.
- Partner with procurement to onboard new suppliers / partners and manage ongoing agreements with assessment and selection providers.
- Manage the Assessment budget, expenses and any associated risks.
- Provide governance and control from an operational and Conduct Risk perspective, to support regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Significant previous experience of designing, embedding and managing a range of assessment tools and tests.
- Experience gained across one or more large, complex organisations with volume, specialist and executive hiring needs.
- Excellent understanding of the key validity and reliability issues associated with different assessment methodologies.
- Ideally, with an Assessment or Occupational Psychology background, adept at recommending and validating the effectiveness of assessment tools.
- Well-developed understanding of the current external market and emerging trends, you'll have lots of ideas to share on how to maintain pace with the speed of change in the recruitment assessment market.
- Awareness of best practice approaches within occupational psychology and a desire to explore these in support of optimising selection, development and talent identification.
- Communication and stakeholder management skills required to build and maintain effective relationships at all levels.
- Proven expertise in delivering a wide range of occupational psychology solutions and applying psychometric tools and techniques.
- Data analysis – apply data extraction and analytic methods to analyse and evaluate information and provide business intelligence.
- Good working knowledge of online assessment platforms.
- Highly numerate with strong analytical skills, demonstrating ROI and tangible results.
- Commercially focused and financially literate.
- Ability to combine a passion for quality with an agile and pragmatic approach.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Strong word, excel and PowerPoint skills.
- A post-graduate qualification in Occupational Psychology or equivalent.
- Qualified to BPS Test user – Occupational ability & personality (formerly Level A & B) status

The role
This is a critical role in supporting and delivering our recruitment and talent transformation which requires a hands-on, roll your sleeves up individual. At the same time will offer variety, challenge and a real sense of achievement. As the Assessment & Selection Manager, you'll have a clear purpose – to ensure that Bupa is making robust selection decisions, now and in the future.
As the owner of our assessment approach for the Insurance & Functions, you'll manage the tools, tests and guidance we use to select candidates (both internally and externally) You will also play in a role in influencing the approach taken up by the other business units within BGIUK. for both recruitment and talent development purposes. You'll set the future direction of how we assess; looking at what we do today and determining whether this is fit for purpose for tomorrow's needs. As the SME on assessment, you'll advise our businesses on their hiring plans and build capability across our hiring manager community, to ensure they select the right talent in the right way.
