- Monitor and undertake operational and plant maintenance tasks at a Water Treatment Works to supply safe water to customers. Responsibilities include cleaning and calibrating instruments, conducting Water Quality tests, troubleshooting treatment issues, analyzing trend data, maintaining process tanks, executing pipework repairs, collaborating with colleagues to resolve faults, handling chemical deliveries to ensure compliance with water quality and environmental standards, and maintaining health, safety, and process safety across the Yorkshire Dales water treatment works.
- Optimize clean water treatment processes chemically and operationally to meet production targets and control costs. Lead optimization efforts, share best practices, and minimize service downtime. Manage asset failures, facilitate operational recoveries, and monitor cost data.
- Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements, control work procedures, follow safety protocols, identify hazards, implement mitigation measures, update reporting systems to ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Water Quality Regulations, and Environment Agency guidelines at all times.
- Play a critical role in executing on-site operational tasks, providing support during incidents, ensuring proper escalation and management of events.
- Promote Modernization strategies to reduce asset failures through Dynamic Asset Maintenance, supporting the new operational asset management system (ERP).
- The ideal candidate is versatile, hands-on, with or without prior Water Treatment experience, willing to learn, self-motivated, and familiar with Health, Safety, and Environmental obligations. Proficient in fault-finding, data analysis, and trend identification.
- Detail-oriented, IT savvy, familiar with risk management practices, open to innovation, and adaptable to a fast-paced operational setting.
- Capable of nurturing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, aligning with business objectives and service partners.
- Preferred experience in a commercial, regulated environment, potentially in water, wastewater, utilities, or manufacturing sectors. Previous confined space work necessitates passing stringent medical assessments ensuring personal safety in hazardous environments.
- Full UK driving license is mandatory for site visits. Limited points on the driving license are allowed, and flexibility is essential for responding to off-hour incidents on a rotational basis.

Location: Yorkshire Dales area – covering Thornton Steward WTW (Water Treatment Works), Catterick WTW, Ainderby WTW, High Shaw WTW, Aysgarth WTW, Dalton WTW, and Richmond WTW. The main site is Thornton Steward WTW, near Bedale, postcode HG4 4BQ, and proximity to this area is preferred.
Work type: This is a permanent position, working an average of 37 hours per week. The working hours are 07:30 – 15:30, including weekend shifts and participation in a 24/7 standby rotation once fully trained.

Water Production operates in a dynamic, closely-knit environment where water undergoes continuous treatment at 50 Water Treatment Works to provide clean drinking water to our customers. These facilities are extensive manufacturing units using various chemicals and processes to convert raw water to potable water, equipped with a range of mechanical and electrical machinery. This role focuses on operational tasks rather than design or supervisory duties for Process Engineers.
