The day-to-day duties


The Sandwell Community Dementia Support Service (SCDSS) is commissioned by Sandwell Metropolitan Council and the Black Country and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group.

As lead provider, we are working alongside seven other local organisations; Agewell CIC, Dementia Pathfinders CIC, West Bromwich African Caribbean Resource Centre, St Albans Community Association, BUDS, Age UK Sandwell and Alzheimer's Society to provide this service across Sandwell Metropolitan Borough.


As a Community Dementia Adviser, you will be required to provide relevant information in a variety of formats to meet individual needs as well as signposting and/or referring them to appropriate services as well as encouraging engagement in community activities.


Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications required:


  • Level 2 dementia qualification (or willingness to work towards achieving this qualification) or a similar qualification and/or equivalent experience, commensurate with the responsibilities of this role.
  • Knowledge of dementia, personcentred approaches, issues that affect family carers and availability of local services.
  • Experience of working in a busy environment and supporting others in a team.
  • Recordkeeping skills and writing ability of a high standard suitable for written communication with service users and professionals, production of publicity materials and reports.
  • Excellent IT skills with confident use of MS Office packages including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
  • An understanding of client confidentiality (GDPR).
  • Knowledge of and ability to work to Adult Safeguarding Procedures, Lone Working Procedures and the Mental Capacity Act.
  • Full current UK driving licence and access to a vehicle to travel independently across the service area.
