Healthcare Assistant / Key Worker – Diamorphine Assisted Treatment (DAT)

Salary: from £25,250 per annum

Hours: various core hours available (across a 7-day rotation)

Location: Sandwell, Smethwick

Contract: Fixed term until March 2025

Cranstoun Sandwell, in partnership with the West Midlands Office of Police and Crime Commissioner and Sandwell Metropolitan Council, launched a brand new Diamorphine Assisted Treatment (DAT) pilot programme in 2021. This was a two year pilot which has been extended and is proving to be an exciting opportunity for us to work in a new way with opiate dependant service users who have not regularly engaged with traditional services. The DAT project delivers all of our usual offer, in addition to daily supervised Diamorphine treatment and associated specialist interventions.

Having experience of supporting people with complex health needs, including substance misuse, you will bring knowledge and commitment to deliver the range of community models of drug and alcohol treatment. You will have a non-judgemental attitude and a desire to support the people who use our services to feel healthier and safer by delivering a high-quality service.

The role will include assessment of service users, goal planning, blood borne virus screening, other harm reduction interventions, health assessments, linking with partner agencies and supporting service users to access help for sometimes complex health needs and supporting the administration of controlled drugs alongside a specialist nurse. You will complement the clinical team members in managing the health needs of service users on the DAT programme, as well as supporting people to achieve their goals through care planning and one to one sessions. The role will include work on base and outreach.

The successful candidate will be committed to a strong harm reduction approach and encourage people who use the service to utilise their recovery capital within their community. There will be a need to develop effective working relationships with your colleagues, service users and external partner agencies across the borough. The desire to ensure the effective delivery of the DAT programme in Sandwell is paramount and you will need demonstrable skills in safe and thorough case management.

There will be a requirement for flexibility and for evening and weekend work on a rota basis as the DAT programme will be delivered 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This role will be fixed term until March 2025.
