Description

The role will contribute to the delivery of interventions and strategies to protect and improve the publics health and reduce health inequalities in support of Council and wider system priorities.

Job responsibilities Work under the direction of senior colleagues to commission services and implement programmes of work to achieve agreed health and wellbeing outcomes based on local needs and assets, evidence of what works and good practice.

Carry out evidence gathering and research to support decision making within programmes, service improvement and commissioning/de-commissioning activities. Support engagement activities with organisations and communities.

Support partnership working with relevant partners and stakeholders.

Undertake contract monitoring directly with providers on lower risk and lower value contracts, facilitating positive contractual relationships and helping to manage disagreement and changes within legislative and operational frameworks.

Keep up to date with relevant policy, best practice, and legislative changes with a bearing on portfolio areas. Support commissioning cycles and procurement activity.


Draft service specifications which meet agreed outcomes and are consistent with commissioning/procurement guidance and legislation Lead and undertake lower risk project work using project planning methods.

Ensure effective communication plans with stakeholders and partners are in place and support the development of communication resources. Provide succinct and relevant written and verbal updates. Be able to assess the impact and risks associated with different courses of action and make recommendations.

Support value for money and return on investment information and analysis where required. Support population and equality impact assessments and needs assessments across Public Health and Communities projects and programmes. Be willing to be redeployed in response to emergency situations or other corporate priorities.

As required, work as part of a rota of Public Health Officers providing officer level support on health protection or emerging public health issues under the direction of senior colleagues.
