Specialist Nurse - Obstetric High Dependency UnitThe role of the Specialist Nurse is to work in partnership with the Midwife providing practical, social and emotional support to mothers and their families in our Obstetric High Dependency Unit.
The post holder will be required to undertake Level 1 and 2 HDU care alongside the Midwifery and Obstetric Team as well as being responsible for the assessment, planning and provision of specialist nursing advice and care.
They will provide health advice and information to mothers to support care of the mother and the newborn baby.
You will have the opportunity to be part of our Multidisciplinary Team and work alongside our Obstetric Medicine Team, Obstetricians, Anaesthetists and Midwives in a busy yet exciting work environment.
Our ObstetricHDU currently manages level 1 and 2 women in the Antenatal and Postnatal period whorequire enhanced monitoring due to their complex medical and / or obstetric conditions.

We are a small team of highly specialised Midwives working within a busy Maternity unit. We care for high risk women during their pregnancies and in the postnatal period.You will be working alongside the Midwives in Obstetric HDU caring for high risk women and their babies.
Assesses patients, plans, implements care, provides specialist advice and maintains associated records
Carries out specialist nursing procedures e.g. NIV, Invasive Central monitoring, management of NG tubes.
Carry out Neonatal observations, including blood glucose monitoring, recognise abnormal findings and report to the midwife.
Assist, in conjunction with the Midwife, in ensuring that agreed programmes and standards of care are implemented and evaluated, thus providing high standards of patient care at all times.
To act as an effective role model and resource/adviser to colleagues in the delivery of nursing care.Ensure that nursing care and clinical practice is research and/or evidence based and accurately reflects the departments philosophies.
Demonstrate competence in caring for critically ill patients and provision of all therapies within clinical setting.
Liaise with other disciplines on issues which may affect the care and safety of patients.
Demonstrate an awareness of clinical governance and risk management
Proven significant experience in an adult HDU
Demonstrate extensive experience in caring for patients requiring Level 2 care
Demonstrate forward planning, problem recognition, pre-emption and resolution
