Description
art-K Wandsworth is an art club for children aged 6 to 18 based in London.Using a wide range of mediums and techniques, the club aims to teach children a diverse range of artistic styles as well as 3D projects.
We're looking to find a passionate, motivated and friendly Exhibition & Workshop Assistants to join art-K on a fixed term contract during the summer holidays.
This role includes Exhibition Assistant duties:
assisting with setting up and delivering art-K's Summer Exhibition, and Workshop Assistant duties: assisting Art Leaders during delivery of the Summer Workshop programme.
Job responsibilities
Exhibition assistant role:
Pre-Exhibition:
- Providing assistance to Assembly Leaders and proactively providing support to the team.
- Contribute to exhibition preparations, including arranging furniture and artwork, unpacking and recording artwork, curating and framing/placing artwork.
- Reloading/unloading vehicles to transport artwork.
- Ad hoc duties.
During Exhibition period:
- Assisting with exhibition installation.
- Learn about the stories about the displays from the art leaders ready for inspiring visitors.
- Represent artK professionally, kindly and with a warm greeting.
- Meet and greet visitors to the exhibition; be aware of and assist with directions for visitors.
- Engage proactively with children to ensure they have an interesting time.
- Assist with workshops and tours as required.
- Be aware of the location of first aid and assist when required.
- Ensure that artwork is not touched inappropriately.
Workshop assistant role:
- Work in a fun, club environment with high teacherstudent ratios where children are enthusiastic about art.
- Have facetoface training on the summer workshop programme.
- Assist in running workshops.
Details
Class preparations will include, but not limited to:
- Laying out materials.
- Talking through aims with assistants.
- Sharpening pencils.
- Washing paint brushes.
- Cutting out templates.
- Prepping materials.
- Ad hoc other.
- Discussing techniques needed to complete a project with the students.
- Demoing the techniques when required.
- Keeping the students engaged on the project & providing alternatives when required.
- Ensuring the learning aims are achieved.
- Adhering to the safeguarding policy and maintaining the health and safety policies in the studio.
- Creating a safe, happy, nurturing environment for students to thrive in during their workshops with artK.
Maintain the studio's upkeep, which includes:
- Washing tables.
- Hoovering/mopping the floor.
- Cleaning the bathroom.
- Maintaining hygiene for safe use of the space by students.
Requirements:
- Currently studying or have completed an art degree or equivalent skills.
- Art skills in a range of mediums.
- Experience teaching/ working with children.
- Positive and proactive attitude.
- Someone who lives within 30 minutes of the branch.
