Job Purpose

  • To advise and participate in the design of methodologies and solutions as part of the planning of projects.
  • To directly supervise and manage the work of the removal team(s) ensuring that the work is completed safely; on time; to the agreed standard; and that it is compliant with legislation.
  • To understand and effectively communicate all information contained within the risk assessments, COSHH assessments and Plans of work relating to the removal repair, encapsulation of asbestos containing materials and associated tasks to their team and other parties affected by the operation
  • They ensure all plant and equipment to be used is in a safe condition and fit for purpose.
  • All accidents, cases of occupational ill health, dangerous occurrences and near misses are reported to their respective line managers by the quickest possible means.
  • Persons under their control are adequately trained and competent to carry out their work and operate any plant or equipment in a safe manner.
  • Line managers are informed of any Health and Safety issues which cannot be resolved.
  • Personal Protective Equipment is readily available, and staff issued with this equipment are aware of its correct use, storage, and procedures for obtaining replacements.
  • Ensure that they and all Operatives undertake "user" inspections of their own RPE in accordance with the documented system.
  • They ensure safe access/egress routes are available, that all statutory signage is prominently displayed.
  • Ensure that all available methods are employed to prevent the spread of asbestos fibres.
  • Carry out "toolbox" type briefings on the contents and amendments to the Plan of Work and ensure comprehension of the plan of work by all operators under their control.
  • Take reasonable care not to endanger themselves or other through their act or omissions.
  • Inform their contracts manager where they are unable to correct any faults that could prevent the asbestos works being completed safely, successfully and on time.
  • To ensure that individual operatives have clear work instructions and to check their understanding of them.
  • To ensure that individual operatives understand fully what is expected of them regarding safety, timekeeping, attendance, conduct, behaviour and work performance.
  • To monitor performance and to address any issues professionally, based upon evidence. To seek guidance on dealing with performance issues where appropriate
  • To always act as a role model
  • To report to the Contract Manager on the progress of a job and to highlight any risks to delivering it safely/compliantly, with the right quality, on time, or in excess of budget.
  • To ensure that Company plant, equipment and materials are maintained, treated with respect, and kept securely.
  • To monitor, control and maintain records of material usage (including fuel) and to report any abuse or discrepancies.
  • To use your initiative in dealing with daytoday operational issues.
  • To complete reports and site paperwork to the standard required by our internal systems, our clients, and by legislation.
  • To train staff; resolve work problems and participate in the work of the team.
  • To maintain a professional relationship with the client and his/her representatives
  • Take responsibility for company vehicle condition from a mechanical and general cleanliness perspective.

Accountabilities

  • All accidents, cases of occupational illhealth, dangerous occurrences and near misses and any potential for accidents are reported to the Contracts Manager
  • Work is performed safely/compliant, agreed quality standard and ontime.
  • Delivering site element of jobs/contracts on time and to budget
  • No issues raised through external audits.
  • Compliant results from all audits
  • Opportunities for improvements identified and communicated through regular communication with site team members.
  • Training and competency of team members
  • All site paperwork is being completed correctly and returned/filed as required.
  • Any key issues communicated to Operations Director Manager (through Contracts Manager if required)
  • Identify and work with Contract Manager, those Operatives who show potential to progress towards a Supervisory role.
