About the role
Balfour Beatty is recruiting for an
Assistant Planner to join our Power Transmission & Distribution business based in
Derby.

This office is responsible for distribution projects and this particular role will focus on the engineering schedule to support a number of major cabling, overhead line (OHL), and substation projects.


This is an office-based role that will initially be centred on pre-construction planning but with an intention to evolve to include the delivery of live projects as you develop your Planning skillset.

You will work a number of projects simultaneously and as the role evolves there will be a requirement to visit site.

Due to the remote location of some projects you will need a full driving licence or be working towards obtaining one.


What you'll be doing

  • Assisting at tender stage the Tender Planner or Planning Lead on smaller projects or sections of projects for the range of activities involved in the project planning life cycle, which includes:
  • Ensuring that the programme content is functionally compliant with the planning standards, procedures and guidance.
  • Identifying planning scope, major constraints and contract requirements
  • Identifying major quantities and factors affecting the programme
  • Establishing and agreeing with Operations and Bid Team key methods of construction, sequencing, installation and commissioning
  • Producing and documenting the planning deliverables including programmes, planning philosophy, presentations and reports
In addition to the above, at contract stage the Assistant Planner will assist the Planning Lead in:

  • Ensuring that the Contract Programme is produced, managed and maintained in accordance with the planning standards.
  • The overall planning strategy and the timing & sequence of the Contract Programme activities
  • The issue and communication of the Contract Programme to the and Project Team
  • Ensuring that all other project planning and programming necessary for the execution of the contract is properly undertaken.

Who we're looking for

The following personal qualities and experience are required:

  • Interested in developing an understanding of the events that initiate, and of the methods used to demonstrate, delay or change entitlement.
  • Experience of the construction market, methods of construction, plant, equipment and labour requirements.
  • Additional skills: Primavera P6, Excel, Microsoft Project, Word.
