As a Finning Field Engineer you willrespond to customer's Marine repair and service requests. You willbe responsible for diagnosing and providing comprehensive detailabout the nature the problem to the customer and Finning to createa quote as per the request of the customer within a cost and timeeffective manner.
Your role will be to execute themaintenance, overhaul, troubleshooting, repair, testing andcommissioning (as the case may be) of Caterpillar and MaK engines,packages and systems installed in vessels.

JobDescription:

Working within Finning'sMarine field service department, and for the largest CAT dealer inthe UK and Ireland, you will be at the forefront of the companieson site diagnostic and repair capabilities for Caterpillarproducts.

Your role will be to execute themaintenance, overhaul, troubleshooting, repair, testing andcommissioning (as the case may be) of Caterpillar and MaK engines,packages and systems installed invessels.

MainJob Functions

•Provide an estimate of arrival time at customer's Location inresponse to service request based on the job instructions fromBranch giving details of customer location, Vessel, contact nameand nature of problem and current worksituation.

• Contact customer's site managementin order to register arrival and presence on site and ensureknowledge of customer procedures so as to adhere to siterequirements.

• Diagnose the likely cause ofreported equipment problems, in discussion with customeroperators/supervisors and using specialised equipment, in order toprovide the customer with an information for the workrequired. Provide a comprehensive detail to allow Finning toconstruct a quote as requested by the customer.

•Identify the parts required to carry out the repair and requisitionany parts and determine expected time of delivery so that a dateand time of any necessary service re-visit can be agreed withcustomer.

• Undertake repair and service work onthe machine to the agreed work plan, removing and despatchingcomponents for specialist attention and re-installing the originalor replacement, to bring the machine up to the requiredstandards.

SpecificSkills:

• Hands-on experience insafety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) processes andprocedures.

• Hand-on experience in operating,maintaining, overhauling, repairing, testing and commissioningmedium & high-speed marine engines, CAT engines, packages andsystems.

• Hands-on experience with electronic(DC), mechanical and electrical (AC) systems.

•Hands-on experience operating engineering diagnostic software andequipment.

• Hands-on experience reading andinterpreting complex wiring diagrams and mechanicalschematics.

• Analytical and problem-solvingskills – breaking problems down into manageable components in orderto prevail.

• Planning and organisational skillswith the ability to work in high-pressured situations and to tightdeadlines.

• Communication & interpersonalskills and the ability to foster constructive relationships bothinternally andexternally.

• Experience working on Caterpillar /MaK engines would bebeneficial

Education:

•Formally apprentice trained (NVQ Level 3) and servedengineer.
